‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Ellen Pompeo Hints At Jo And Alex Split In Season 12 Finale

The final episodes for Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 are right around the corner, and that means the final storylines are about to take shape. One such event is a possible split between Alex and Jo.

Many fans are rooting for Alex and Jo, but there is certainly no guarantee that things will work out for the on-screen couple. And if you include Ellen Pompeo’s (Meredith Grey) recent statement about the health of Alex and Jo’s relationship, then you know things are about to get rocky.

“It’s not good between them… She’s pushing him away.” Pompeo said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “There is a big Alex and Jo situation happening that’s going to explain a lot of why they haven’t gotten together yet.”

But Carter Matt reminds fans that relationships on Grey’s Anatomy tend to go through ups and downs, and Alex and Jo have had their fair share. This includes his attempts at proposing and her unwillingness to get married. With only a few episodes remaining this season, it’s no guarantee that Alex and Jo will resolve whatever issues they have before the season is over.

Of course, fans have been pondering the possibility of a hook-up between long-time friends Alex and Meredith. Now that Meredith is single again, that possibility seems at least somewhat likely if you consider Alex and Jo might be splitting up.

After McDreamy died at the end of last season, fans have been wondering who will be next in line for Meredith. In fact, some fans thought that Alex showed some romantic feelings for Meredith earlier this season when Meredith got injured and Alex appeared to want more than just a close friendship.

But other fans interpreted Alex as just being a great friend to Grey, including helping out with her kids when she couldn’t even manage to take care of herself.

However, considering the hardship that Alex and Jo are going to go through, with no guarantee they will remain together, the topic was brought up to Ellen in an interview with TV Line.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Ellen Pompeo doesn’t think her character will be falling for Alex. She said that Meredith and Alex’s friendship is way too special to become a couple on the show. The actress also added that she has some very close friendships with men that have no romantic feelings, which is exactly how Meredith and Alex are for now. Of course, that doesn’t mean showrunner Shonda Rhimes doesn’t have any surprises up her sleeves in the future.

As for Ellen, she said that she trusts Shonda with her character and is willing to do whatever Shonda has planned for Meredith.

Meanwhile, the International Business Times reports that the new trailer for the next new episode reveals that there will be “one shocking hook-up and two jaw-dropping proposals.” Along with the video promo, the synopsis for the upcoming episode also teased fans that Owen and Amelia will “take their relationship to the next level,” while Alex “gains some clarity on his future with Jo.”

Nevertheless, Alex and Jo’s relationship isn’t the only one being tested on the show. In the upcoming episode, fans get to watch Callie and Arizona attempt to work things out after their heartbreaking custody battle. In the previous episode, Arizona and Callie battled in court for custody of Sophia, but in the end, the judge thought Arizona was better suited to raise their daughter.
