Hillary Clinton Pulled The Trigger On Bin Laden Raid, Not Obama [Book]
A new book claims that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, not a reluctant President Obama, was the one who pulled the trigger on the operation that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden.
In his new book, Leading From Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors Who Decide for Him, investigative journalist Richard Miniter says that President Obama axed three operations meant to kill Osama bin Laden before finally caving on the operation that did just that — but only at the behest of Hillary Clinton.
“Obama feared taking responsibility for a risky raid that might go tragically wrong,” Miniter alleges, according to NY Daily.
Miniter’s allegation is not without controversy. The risky May 2011 raid that resulted in the death of bin Laden was sold to the US public as a swift and daring operation directed by a sure and steadfast President Obama. But the book’s allegations threaten that perception, painting the POTUS as an indecisive and jittery figurehead, relying on strong female influences in his life: Valerie Jarrett, who allegedly stalled Obama from earlier raids; Hillary Clinton, who encouraged the ultimate operation; and even wife Michelle Obama.
Miniter, a two-time New York Times best-selling author, cites an unnamed source with Joint Special Operations Command who had direct knowledge of the operation and its planning, reports the Daily Caller.
“She [Hillary] knew her husband had paid a political price for failing to stop bin Laden before the September 11 attacks,” Miniter wrote. “She knew Obama’s presidency could be mortally wounded if he had bin Laden in his gun sights and didn’t fire.”
Miniter portrays Hillary Clinton in an empowering light, showing her as a strong-willed and humble figure, urging a reluctant Obama to do what is best for the country.
“He knew Clinton was right,” Miniter wrote. “So he agreed to keep making minor decisions, but remained uneasy about the big one at the end — deciding to kill bin Laden, and to risk losing American and Pakistani lives in the process.”
