‘Game Of Thrones’ Spoilers: Fans Furious Over Tower Of Joy Scene
Game of Thrones aired another new episode on Sunday night, and fans were beyond excited to see a specific scene teased in the previews. The Tower of Joy scene is what many viewers have been looking forward to for years. However, most were extremely disappointed after the scene left them less than satisfied.
According to Uproxx, Game of Thrones viewers have been waiting years to see the scene of a young Ned Stark at the Tower of Joy. Fans of the book series know that during this time, Ned finds his sister, Lyanna, who is dying and makes her a very important promise, which readers have not yet been privy to. However, many believed that the secret would come out during Sunday’s episode, titled “Oathbreaker.”
During the scene, Bran and the Three-Eyed Raven are watching the Tower of Joy battle happen in their minds. Bran sees his father, Ned Stark, fighting to get into the tower to save his sister. After a pretty intense fight, Ned begins to climb the stairs to the tower, but the Three-Eyed Raven refuses to let Bran see anymore and brings him out of the past.
Of course, Bran is furious that he didn’t get to see what happened when Ned entered the tower, as were many Game of Thrones fans, but why is this scene so important?
Many Game of Thrones enthusiasts have subscribed to the theory that Jon Snow is actually the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, not the illegitimate son of Ned Stark as everyone has been told.
Many believe that Lyanna asked Ned to take care of her child and hide his identity on her deathbed, as she feared he would be killed for his Targaryen bloodline. Of course, if this theory is true, Jon Snow would have a very valid claim to the throne as well as be the only other living member of Daenerys Targaryen’s family. (Unless you also believe the Tyrion Lannister theory.) This theory, which has been dubbed the R+L=J theory, is very popular among Game of Thrones fans, who believed they were about to get confirmation on Sunday night but were extremely disappointed when that moment did not happen.
“We got the (expertly executed) fight. We got Ned acting honorable. We got Lyanna screaming from the Tower. We even got Meera Reed’s backstabbing father. We got everything but (the now former-Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch) Jon Stark. Presumably, Lyanna was in pain from giving birth, but we won’t know until next episode (next season? never?) what’s going on, because, to quote the Three-Eyed Raven, ‘if you stay too long, you’ll drown.'”
Of course, Game of Thrones fans are still holding out hope that the full scene will eventually be shown during Season 6, possibly even in the next episode. However, that didn’t stop the loyal fan base from taking to their social media accounts to reveal their displeasure at the scene being cut short.
Meanwhile, Jon Snow, the man at the center of the theory, was forced to deal with his resurrection during Sunday’s episode and did so by killing the men who led the charge to murder him. Jon killed the three men, and a young boy, who stabbed him to death and then turned in his cloak, stating that his watch had ended, which because of his death, technically had.
Spoilers and rumors reveal that Game of Thrones fans will see Jon Snow back in Winterfell by the end of Season 6, which means that some big fight scenes between him and the Bolton men could be coming very soon. Of course, now that fans know that Rickon Stark is back in Winterfell, Jon could also play a huge part in saving him from Ramsay’s evil wrath.
