First Look At ‘Elder Scrolls Legends’ At PAX East 2016

PAX East 2016 is a drawing to a close and Elder Scrolls Legends is just starting to warm up over at the Bethesda booth. Elder Scrolls Legends just released its beta and the closed beta has just officially started last Thursday. But, you can still have a chance to try out Elder Scrolls Legends before its official release. You can still sign up for the upcoming beta over at the official Elder Scrolls Legends website.

If you are one of the many who were unable to join the closed beta of Elder Scrolls Legends, you can still take a first look at the game mechanics at the PAX East 2016, still happening at Boston Massachusetts until Sunday. Bethesda is hosting a couple of Elder Scrolls Legends events throughout the day.

Those who were able to drop by the Bethesda booths at PAX East 2016, they were able to test their hands on the Elder Scrolls Legends beta. Bethesda’s Pete Hines also streamed over at Twitch, and talked about what’s new with the Elder Scrolls Legends and how is it different from all of the card games we’ve loved so far.

If I’m already hooked with Magic: The Gathering Online or Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, why would I still spend time and effort learning about and investing on the Elder Scrolls Legends? Well, one, if you’re a huge Elder Scrolls lore fan, then you gotta love the cards of Elder Scrolls Legends! The cards feature different races and monsters from the Elder Scrolls lore, meaning all 10 races will be represented quite well. Also there are different modes to choose from, with a special Campaign mode designed to train the card-game newbie and let you acquire all the skills (and even cards) necessary to play Elder Scrolls Legends competitively.

In addition, Pete Hines explains during the Twitch livestream of the PAX East some of the interesting features of Elder Scrolls Legends that will set it above the rest in terms of game unpredictability and tactics.

First, instead of the usual one battlefield, Elder Scrolls Legends features two separate lanes for the players, where different rules can apply for each lane. What is the purpose of the two-lane feature of Elder Scrolls Legends? This enables players to still do a comeback even though one crazy good card is put on the table. Card gamers are not new to this phenomenon where the player who drops the crazy good card usually ends up owning the whole table. Since there are two lanes, there is still a chance for the other player to play his cards away from the crazy good card.

Another feature of Elder Scrolls Legends is the rune feature, which lets you draw a card whenever you bust your runes. Pete Hines explains that this feature is another comeback feature that, in the event that you start taking a bunch of damage, you’re going to start drawing cards, which can help you get back into the game instead of just watching the other player wreck you. Hines emphasized that these two unique features of Elder Scrolls Legends enables the battlefield to become more difficult to play and the victory much more difficult to foresee, since he witnessed matches where a player might already be behind by tons of HP but still end up winning.

Like all Elder Scrolls games, Elder Scrolls Legends lets you choose a race. This is crucial to the game, too. Since all 10 races will have avatars in the cards, based on the race you pick in the game, you will have special abilities for that card race. Also, you are able to train cards in the game to make them stronger. Learn more about Elder Scrolls Legends in the in-depth game mechanics here.
