A new UFO shaped floating home makes a mini yacht the perfect self-sustaining off the grid home for ocean explorers complete with an underwater view.
An Italian design team has drawn up plans for a concept watercraft, called the UFO, Unidentified Floating Object, with a passenger compartment divided by a circular sundeck, run completely by solar power.
“This home would allow you to live on the ocean and travel the world.”
The two-story floating home is made of two fiberglass spherical halves, giving passengers 322 sq feet of living space complete with a kitchen, bathroom, sleeping quarters, and an underwater lounge to watch frolicking sea creatures.
Owners could use the specially designed floating UFO home to cruise the world at the slow luxury style pace of 3.5 knots, 4 mph. The watercraft can be aligned with a compass and is designed to maintain its position and stability, even in rough seas, using a special elastic anchor system.
Perfect for off-the-grid ocean wanderers, the floating home is completely self sufficient using solar panels or water turbines teamed with an electric engine and water generator to power the motor, provide drinking water, and maintain the vegetable garden. The sundeck of the UFO home can be customized to include a bike path or lounge area.
The living area is completely customizable and is furnished with luxury amenities that could be found in any upscale house, although space is limited.
The company is currently seeking investors to help build the first working prototype, which they estimate at $800,000 — but cheaper floating homes are expected to follow at $200,000, less expensive than some houseboats.
The floating UFO home would make the perfect escape in the case of civil unrest or zombie apocalypse and comes much cheaper than the millions some super rich families are spending on fortified underground bunkers.

From Germany to Indiana, the super rich are snatching up fortified underground bunkers that come complete with swimming pools and five-star living quarters, stocked with enough food to survive independently for a year , reports the Daily Mail .
The luxury bunkers are supplied with a hospital, armed guards, and thick fortified bomb-proof doors that would allow the occupants to sit out the chaos above ground, at least for a while.
“People are sensing that a global life-changing event is just ahead … Millions of people believe that we are living in the end times.”
The super elite could also hide out from the end of the world in an underwater hotel, like Jules’s Undersea Lodge in Key Largo, Florida, where guests have to scuba dive down 21 feet under the ocean to reach their accommodations.

The Lovers Deep, actually a fancy submarine, is the most mobile underwater hotel, complete with soundproof rooms, but it requires a small crew to run it.
In a few years, NASA hopes an inflatable module will provide the perfect escape into space for the brave and daring tourist. The space agency hopes the Kevlar-insulated BEAM will be used as a space hotel, inflatable spaceship , or even a cheap moon base, according to the Express .
“Humans will be using these kinds of modules as we move further and further off the planet and, actually, as we inhabit low Earth orbit.”
Whether it’s a floating UFO home or an inflatable space hotel, the super rich are gearing up to survive the end of the world at any cost.
