Spotify Is Matching Your Music Tastes To A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Character
Ever wondered which Game of Thrones character your music tastes align with? To celebrate the return of Game of Thrones, Spotify has launched a new mini-site that matches your musical tastes to that of a character from the hit HBO fantasy series. The tool is without a doubt something of a marketing ploy designed to capitalize on the upcoming Season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones, but for music loving fans of the series, it provides an interesting take on the traditional “which character are you?” formula.
As reported by the Verge, the new mini-site is very similar to the one that Spotify launched alongside the latest Star Wars film. However, the key difference here is between the fantasy world of Game of Thrones and the sci-fi universe of Star Wars. The basic premise is very much the same, though. Spotify users can log in to the platform to pull up their favourite music, or those without a Spotify account can just jump into finding their Game of Thrones soulmate through a series of questions. If that’s the case, you’ll have to take a couple of minutes to select five of your favourite artists before Spotify match those artists with the Game of Thrones character they think would like them the most.
Spotify has to be commended for how well it presents the Game of Thrones‘ characters, giving you the house of your character, a quote, and some new music to enjoy. It may just be a marketing ploy, but Spotify has definitely gone all out in capturing the excitement around the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Spotify has also released playlists for each Game of Thrones character that you can have a listen to ahead of the new season. A lot of care and attention has definitely gone into selecting the songs for these playlists. For example, Cersei Lannister’s playlist features Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman,” whilst Robert Baratheon’s playlist features plenty of country music that we’d imagine the deceased king would enjoy listening to whilst out on a hunt. If you’re looking to use the aforementioned Spotify mini-site to match your music tastes with a character from the Game of Thrones universe, you can do so here.
Of course, it goes without saying that you won’t actually find your character in Game of Thrones listening to the music that Spotify suggests that they would, mainly because Westeros existed a good few years before the inception of music streaming. That being said, if it was released today, we could definitely see “The Rains of Castamere” shooting to the top of Spotify’s charts. The song is, of course, well known for being sung by Lannister forces in Game of Thrones.
Spotify’s Game of Thrones music matching quiz is likely one of many Game of Thrones-themed promotional products that will appear in the coming days. Season 6 of the hit show premieres on Sunday, April 24, and given the popularity of the show, it’s very likely that everyone will be looking to capitalize on it. That being said, the more companies getting in on the action around the new season of Game of Thrones then the more exciting the experience is going to be for fans. Game of Thrones has undeniably become event viewing, with many heralding similarities between the television series and blockbuster movies that are typically shown at the cinema.Game of Thrones will return for its sixth season April 24 on HBO and before then, you can expect plenty more excitement around the series to grow across the internet. At least Spotify has provided a way to fill the void between now and the season premiere with a good few Game of Thrones-themed playlists.
