NFL Rumors: New York Giants Drafting Ezekiel Elliott
NFL rumors have been swirling around Ezekiel Elliott. The former Ohio State Buckeyes star will be the best running back coming out of the college ranks. Several teams will be interested in selecting Elliott in this year’s NFL Draft. He could potentially be the only running back selected in the first round. According to CBS Sports, the New York Giants could take Elliott if he is available with the tenth pick. Not only is he a great prospect, but he is also considered to be one of those special players that doesn’t come around often.
Last season, the New York Giants did not have a true number one running back. They played a running back by committee. Rashad Jennings led the pack. He had 863 yards on 195 carries. Jennings was in the top 20 in the NFL in terms of carries and yards. He had a solid season for New York. Overall as a team, the Giants were below average in the league.
The New York Giants had to rely on Eli Manning more than they had wanted to. Manning threw for a career high in pass attempts. He was in the top five for pass attempts in the NFL last season. Throwing too many attempts could be taking a toll on the veteran quarterback.The New York Giants had one of the best offenses in the NFL. They were in the top ten for points, passing yards, and overall yards in a game. The Giants offense was carried by Odell Beckham, Jr. and Eli Manning. They were one of the best duos in the entire league. Beckham’s play has thrust him into being one of the top receivers in the National Football League. The former LSU star is top five in terms of yards and touchdowns this season.
Drafting a talent like Ezekiel Elliott with the tenth pick could be a win for the New York Giants. The former Ohio State Buckeyes star is the most talked about running back in this year’s NFL Draft. Elliott has the potential to carry a team on his back if needed. New York getting a talent like Ezekiel could make the Giants offense even better. He would help take the load off of Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning.Last season, the New York Giants were one of the worst defensive teams in the NFL. They were dead last in yards allowed. Not only did they give up yards, the Giants allowed 27.6 points per game. The offense had to play catch up in almost every single game. New York made the defense a priority this summer. They resigned Jason Pierre-Paul to a one-year deal worth $10 million. The Giants also signed Damon Harrison, Olivier Vernon, and Janoris Jenkins to huge contracts. New York could possibly have one of the best defenses in the league.
The New York Giants could be the best team in the NFC East next season. They made a lot of moves to try to improve on both sides of the ball. The Giants needed to upgrade their defense from last year’s horrible season. They did just that this summer. The Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys were very quiet this offseason. The Philadelphia Eagles were active this summer. They traded away Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, and DeMarco Murray.The New York Giants selecting Ezekiel Elliott with the tenth overall pick in the NFL Draft would be a steal. Elliott teaming up with Odell Beckham, Jr. and Eli Manning would be a deadly combination. The Giants could have one of the most explosive offenses in the National Football League. New York would be foolish to pass up on Elliott, if he is still on the board.
