As the mid-season finale of Vikings Season 4 fast approaches, the teaser video has gotten fans worried that there will be carnage when it comes to the death toll of fan favorites. But just who is really likely to die in Episode 10 (entitled “The Last Ship”)?
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information about Season 4 of History Channel’s Vikings . Also discussed is historical evidence in relation to the Vikings characters. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers, especially historically based spoilers.
It is predicted Viking brothers Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and Duke Rollo (Clive Standen) will battle — potentially to the death — in Episode 10 of Season 4 of Vikings . However, the teaser clip released by History Channel in the lead-up to the mid-season finale has gotten fans worried about just who else will die.
Let’s have a look at who gets injured in the teaser video and predict the likelihood of them dying in Episode 10 of Vikings .
Ragnar
While Ragnar and Rollo are not seen as injured during the mid-season finale teaser video, it is expected there will be an epic battle between the two brothers. As with any battle there is the potential one — or both of them — will perish.
For Ragnar, though, Season 4 of Vikings has been a tough one on him. He has managed to pick up a nasty addiction to betel nuts and this has resulted in a character who has lost his edge. When he was recently defeated at Paris by his own brother, fans were wondering if the once mighty king would ever recover. But he has come up with a very clever plan to get the Vikings around Paris’ defenses. As he tries to kick his drug habit, there is now the glimmer of the old Ragnar fans loved.
However, considering Ragnar suffered long-term injuries as a result of the Season 3 attack on Paris, the odds are stacked against him as he vows to fight his brother in Episode 10 of Vikings . Duke Rollo is now the stronger opposition and Ragnar will have to fight with a level head if he wishes to defeat his brother. This is something he is not planning to do after he told his son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), that he would save up the remainder of his stash of betel nuts for his battle with Rollo.
While things look grim for Ragnar, History Channel could choose to drag out the battle between Ragnar and Rollo until the Season 4 return of Vikings , and this may be his only chance of surviving this episode.
Chance of survival: 2/10
Duke Rollo
Rollo is the stronger Viking coming into the battle with his brother, even if Ragnar will have the aspect of surprise on his side after taking the Viking longships across land and around Paris’ barriers.
History tells us that Rollo could survive this battle as he is known as the ruler of Normandy and this has not been explored yet in Season 4 of Vikings .
However, his new wife, Gisla (Morgane Polanski), has just announced her pregnancy. History also tells us Rollo has a child, an heir. So if Gisla is already pregnant, the show’s creator might consider killing off Rollo in favor of the show’s original main character, Ragnar.
Chance of survival: 9/10
Floki
Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) is another character who has had a very difficult time in Season 4 of Vikings . He was punished for killing Ragnar’s best friend, Athelstan (George Blagden), then struggled with his alliance after Ragnar freed him. He also recently lost his daughter, and nearly lost his dear wife, Helga (Maude Hirst).
However, a tentative new storyline has been put into play for Floki after this. When visiting the Seer (John Kavanagh), it was suggested that Floki could turn out to be the new Seer. If this is the case, is the show’s writer, Michael Hirst, really going to kill Floki off?
The Episode 10 trailer for Vikings shows what appears to be Floki getting stabbed by a Frank. But there isn’t any actual footage of blood or a wound. So could this just be a creative scene cut from the mid-season finale? Only time will tell!
Chance of survival: 10/10
Lagertha
The Episode 10 trailer for Vikings shows Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) stabbed in the shoulder. There is no confusion over her injury. However, viewers do not get to see the outcome of this injury. It is just as likely Lagertha fights on. Or, alternatively, someone else steps in and kills the Frank for her.
With Lagertha, her story could go either way. She is one of the original main characters, yet her story is sitting on a precipice at the moment. She has managed, against all the odds thrown at her, to regain her Earldom of Hedeby. Yet she has lost another child and is in a position where she really has no ongoing storyline. Of all the characters injured in the Episode 10 trailer, it is her life that is probably the most dispensable as far as main characters go.
Chance of survival: 5/10
Halfdan the Black
Halfdan the Black (Jasper Pääkkönen) is a newcomer to Season 4 of Vikings . He arrived with his brother, King Harald Finehair (Peter Franzen). His brother is keen to become the king of all Norway, something that could jeopardize Ragnar’s position. As a consequence of this, his storyline is merely as a participant to Finehair’s story and is probably the most dispensable character out of all of them.
Chance of survival: 3/10
