WWE News: Maryse, Lana, And Renee Young All Added In Major ‘WWE Total Divas’ Cast Change
WWE was rocked this past Monday. On WWE RAW, the newly-crowned WWE Intercontinental Champion Zack Ryder would lose his championship to The Miz. Miz was helped by Miz’s wife, Maryse, by getting into an altercation with Ryder’s dad at ringside, which would distract the broski enough for him to get caught by Miz for the skull crushing finale. The fact Miz won his fifth IC Title was weird enough, but adding Maryse back in made it weirder.
There were rumors in late 2014 of Maryse coming back to WWE, but they were never fully confirmed, and it was mostly forgotten about. While Maryse was still the “sexiest of the sexy” and could easily come back to work for WWE if she wanted, nothing came out of it. Now we know she’s back, but she is sort of only there for a few good reasons. First, she wants to be around her husband more of course. We don’t know why, and we’re still trying to figure that one out. She is also there to take part in WWE’s Diva reality show called WWE Total Divas, which airs on E! Network.
She is not the only one set to be a new cast member to the show. According to Wrestling Inc., manager/one-time wrestler Lana and WWE broadcaster Renee Young were both added. Young has mostly done the after-show for Total Divas. Obviously, she no longer will, or it would sort of be dumb. The cast will be joined by Naomi once again, who is returning after sitting out all of Season 5. This is good for long-time fans of the show who enjoyed seeing Naomi before.
Both Bella Twins, Paige, Natalya, and Eva Marie are all coming back next season as well. Meanwhile, in order to make room for the new girls, Mandy Rose, Alicia Fox, and Rosa Mendes were dropped from this season. Of course, the season right now will finish up, but while this is going on, there is already taping underway for Season 6. This season will center around the retirements of Brie Bella and Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) and much more, including the diva’s revolution once again.
WWE has now dropped the “Diva” name for their female performers, as they are now called “Superstars” just like the men. It is thought that this will be played into the Total Divas show big time, but do not expect a name change for the show to go along with it.
It makes total sense for both Lana and Renee to be added to the list of girls, as fans have wanted to see them added to the show for some time now. Renee Young is currently dating WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose, which could be played up during the show. Meanwhile, Lana is engaged to WWE Superstar Rusev. Do not be surprised if the show can get a taped wedding out of these two, because that seems to be the rage.
Lana needs something outside of programming to do, so it made total sense to add her. On top of this, there is a lot of drama that surrounds her backstage. With this being known, they probably won’t have to write her much material. It will be interesting if she stays in character and keeps the Russian accent, as CJ Perry is not Russian. The show usually goes outside of kayfabe, so this would not be too shocking to see from them.
It would be jarring to fans who to hear her without it, but it could allow for her to drop the accent on normal programming, which has been discussed. Meanwhile, Maryse being added is a big deal and it surely helps her out, as her business is big for her and exposure to it could be worth her comeback to WWE. It is uncertain if she will wrestle while being back, but she is a two-time Diva’s Champion, so there is a hope. As of now, she is only set to work with The Miz as a manager.
