National Puppy Day Deals From PetSmart For Dog Owners
National Puppy Day is Wednesday, March 23, and PetSmart is celebrating by offering deals for dog owners. If you don’t have a dog, you may want to adopt one from your local humane society or rescue one from a shelter, as it is customary to celebrate National Puppy Day in this way. If you are already a dog owner, you’ll find there are many ways to share your love and concern for dogs this holiday. Learning how to best care for your puppy is undoubtedly the most important way to celebrate this day; however, the day was created to bring awareness to the detrimental impact puppy mills have on the welfare and well-being of puppies.
Colleen Paige created National Puppy Day and released a statement via the official website discussing it’s origin.
“National Puppy Day is a special day to celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives. But more importantly, it’s a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills. National Puppy Day was founded in 2006 by Celebrity Pet & Home Lifestyle Expert and Author, Colleen Paige, who is also the founder of National Dog Day and National Cat Day (among many others).”

If you are interested in adopting a puppy tomorrow, check with your local ASPCA, humane society and other local shelters. The point of the holiday is to save puppies in need, and not to buy them from puppy mills. If you want to buy a puppy that hasn’t been rescued, always choose a reputable breeder. Breeders who spend time with puppies from birth often have dogs that are more socialized and accustomed to being around people and other animals. When puppies are born and bred in puppy mills, they often spend much of their time in cages or crates, away from human interaction and suffer from lack of socialization. Also check your local news stations for information about puppies that will be up for adoption.
