Blake Shelton Sues — Singer Says ‘I Have Never Been To Rehab’ And Miranda Lambert Didn’t Catch Him With Naked Women
Along with launching his newest album and working on the current season of The Voice, Blake Shelton has been busy in the past few months. Now, the country singer has officially filed a lawsuit in response to multiple rumors about his lifestyle. In the pending lawsuit, Shelton hit hard against the reports of a drinking problem and assured the court that he hasn’t urinated on any mailboxes.
According to Fox News, Shelton filed a suit against Bauer Publishing after they printed an In Touch story about Shelton’s drinking problems. The magazine reported that Shelton went to rehab for his alcoholism and came close to derailing his career in country music.
In the suit, Shelton claims that he does not have a problem with alcohol. Even further, Shelton denies the report that he has been unable to function at work and that he allegedlu urinated on a mailbox.
“I have never been to rehab. I did not then, nor have I ever, hit rock bottom. I do not drink excessively, binge drink or have a drinking problem,” Shelton wrote in the statement. “I do not drink vodka before 11 a.m. I am never drunk, intoxicated, or unable to perform my job on The Voice. I do not slur my words or stumble when I drink. I have never urinated on a mailbox.”
At the same time, TMZ is reporting that the magazine also made claims about Shelton’s marriage to his now ex-wife, Miranda Lambert. More specifically, the outlet reported that Shelton had been unfaithful to Lambert, and that his alleged cheating ways had led to their divorce this past summer.
“My ex-wife Miranda Lambert did not catch me with a bunch of naked women in our Tennessee home,” Shelton stated.
Shelton is suing the company for $2 million in damages. For their part, Bauer has officially denied Shelton’s assertions that their story was false. Instead, the publishing company has stated that everything they wrote was “substantially true” about the country star and are seeking to have the lawsuit thrown out.
Legal battles aside, Shelton is currently getting ready for the release of his upcoming album, If I’m Honest. In contrast to his Gwen Stefani’s newest album, which dished on her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, Shelton told E! Online that his songs are a little different than his girlfriend’s.
“It’s not like there’s all these juicy details [in the record], but [country music] lends itself to emotions and things that you go through when you go through a divorce,” Shelton explained. “And, more so, the getting over that and moving on and finding someone else.”
While he didn’t include any of the “juicy details” in the album, Blake Shelton reportedly did use his past experiences as motivation for the record. Considering everything Shelton went through — from his divorce with Lambert to romance with Stefani — he certainly had a lot of things to draw upon.
“The last year and a half of my life has literally blown up in my face. That’s OK because I’m a country singer, and I at least get to take all that and put it into music,” Shelton revealed. “[I] couldn’t be happier with the way ‘Came Here to Forget’ has taken off.”
Shelton released “Came Here to Forget” as the first single from the record. The song follows a couple at a bar who are trying to forget their former relationships. Although he doesn’t mention anyone by name, the lyrics are seemingly a reflection of Shelton’s heated romance with Stefani, and how she helped him get through his break up with Lambert.
Shelton’s newest album is set to release on May 20.
