Vadym Kholodenko: Ukrainian Pianist’s Daugthers Dead And Wife Stabbed In Texas

Texas Murders UPDATE: Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko has made contact with the police officer investigating the deaths of his daughters and the stabbing of his estranged wife. Kholodenko is cooperating with investigators and is not considered as suspect in the brutal attack, AOL reports.

“Once he arrived there, he found the mother in an extreme state of distress and discovered the children in their state,” Benbrook Police Commander David Babcock said. “He is not considered a suspect at this time.”

There were reportedly no signs of forced entry into the home. Sofia Tsygankova is recovering from surgery at a local hospital and is expected to be held for a mental evaluation after she recovers from her stab wounds.

The two young daughters of internationally renowned pianist Vadym Kholodenko have been found dead inside their Texas home. Their mother, Sofia Tsygankova, who was also found inside the Benbrook residence, suffered severe stab wounds.

Vadym Kholodenko has often deemed the most famous pianist in the world, was reportedly in the midst of divorcing his wife.

The little girls, Nika Kholodenko, 5, and Michela Kholodenko, 1, were found laying in their beds, the Daily Mail reports. Vadym Kholodenko, 29, is scheduled to perform at Bass Hall with the Forth Worth Symphony Orchestra later this weekend. Representatives for the hall have announced that Kholodenko’s understudy will now replace him at the performance, ABC News 8 reports.

Exactly how the two little girls died remains unclear. Benbrook Police Commander David Babcock would only reveal that the daughters of the famous pianist were not stabbed.

“The manner of death has not been determined at this time. Until we speak to the mother, it’s too early in this investigation to establish any suspects or motives at this point,” Commander Babcock said.

Vadym Kholodenko and Sofia Tsygankova, 31, have been living apart since last August. After just five years of marriage, the Ukrainian pianist filed for divorce from his estranged wife in November. Yesterday morning, an unidentified individual went to the Texas home and found Tsygankova in severe physical distress and her daughters dead in their beds.

The mother was reportedly rushed to the hospital and is showing signs of recovering, but her health status remains unknown at this time. Whether or not the medical staff has informed her about her the murders of her daughters also remains unclear.

Terri Messer, a neighbor of Tsygankova and Kholodenko’s daughters, told local reporters that the pianist traveled a lot and was not often at the home — until recently.

“It’s disturbing. Certainly wouldn’t have expected anything like this. Very sad for the family and for the children,” Messer said.

According to the neighbor, Sofia was a very “attentive” mother who often played outside with the girls and even hopped onto the trampoline to join in their fun.

Kholodenko, who was born to an American father, moved to the United States from the Ukraine in 2014 after war broke out in the region. The concert pianist was reportedly educated in Russia but holds Ukrainian citizenship. His nationality reportedly caused him problems in Russia, and the ongoing hostilities prompted his decision to relocate to the United States.

Upon returning from a trip abroad, Kholodenko was reportedly detained by Russian authorities at the airport. No details are known about the reasons behind the brief detainment. His previous and successful relationship with the Forth Worth Symphony Orchestra enticed Vadym to choose Benbrook as his new home.

The missing pianist won the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. After the win that launched his career, Vadym was heralded for giving the audience a “mesmerizing” and “exhilarating” performance. He ultimately released a CD from the piano competition and then booked studio time for his first professional recording session.

Vadym Kholodenko first began performing in public when he was just 13-years-old. His early concerts were held in the United States, Croatia, Hungary, and China. Kholodenko studied at the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
