‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spoilers: EP On Damon And Elena’s Future – Will ‘Delena’ Fans Cry Or Rejoice?
The Vampire Diaries season 7 does not return until April 1. However, there is still some information on the next episode of TVD. Season 7, episode 16 is titled “Days of Future Past.” As all TVD fans know, Nina Dobrev is no longer on The Vampire Diaries. Her character, Elena Gilbert, still exists on the CW series, although she is in a coma. Elena will not wake up for several years, but the character is still part of the storyline in some ways. All fans of The Vampire Diaries have couples they love and hate, including Damon and Elena, commonly referred to as “Delena.” Executive producer Julie Plec spoke about Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev’s characters during a Twitter Q&A. Will “Delena” fans cry or rejoice? Will Damon and Elena have a future together or not on The Vampire Diaries? What else did Plec reveal about the rest of season 7 and beyond?
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the promo clip for the next episode of The Vampire Diaries shows Rayna (Leslie-Anne Huff) wearing Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) down. Appearing to be physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted, Rayna asks Stefan if he is ready to let go of Damon Salvatore. To fans’ surprise, Stefan says yes. Some viewers don’t believe this, and in a comment on Spoiler TV, one fan speculated that Stefan is actually still in the Phoenix Stone. The viewer reasoned that letting Damon go was in Stefan’s mind and he may be in the Phoenix Stone, reliving his own personal hell over and over again.
In previous episodes of The Vampire Diaries, Damon asked why Rayna looked like Elena. This is something fans have also asked Julie Plec. It turns out that it was pure coincidence. The Vampire Diaries executive producer replied that the Rayna looking just like Elena was not something they noticed immediately. Someone did mention the similar appearances between the characters. Once somebody pointed out that Rayna and Elena looked like twins, it was all the cast and crew could see. This is why the writers threw in some jokes about the Elena lookalike in The Vampire Diaries. However, there is no hidden reason why Rayna and Elena look so similar.
In Julie Plec’s blog on Entertainment Weekly, The Vampire Diaries executive producer vaguely answered the question of “Delena.” The executive producer would not say if Damon and Elena will be reunited. However, Plec did reveal Damon’s goal when it comes to his comatose girlfriend.

“All I can say is that Damon is committed to being at Elena’s side when she wakes up in however many years it takes, and he’s going to do everything he can to make sure he still believes he’s worthy of her,” Julie Plec teased about Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries. “He will hit a lot of bumps in the road coming up in the next few episodes and will have to make some drastic decisions. Don’t forget, when we started this season, he was lying desiccated in a coffin next to hers.”
Going back to the season 7 premiere of The Vampire Diaries, the episode began with a three-year flash forward. As Plec mentioned, Damon and Elena were laying in coffins next to each other. Stefan woke his brother up, and an irritated Damon said he was not supposed to wake up until Elena was out of her coma. Will Nina Dobrev ever return to The Vampire Diaries so Elena can wake up? In an interview with Collider, executive producer Caroline Dries said it will not be in the season 7 finale of TVD. However, if the CW series is cancelled, which will happen one day, they will try to get Dobrev back for the final episode.
As fans know, The Vampire Diaries was renewed for season 8, so don’t count on a “Delena” reunion anytime soon.
