Phaedra Parks Gives Update On How Sons Are Doing With Apollo Nida In Prison
Sunday night’s episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was an emotional one for Phaedra Parks. It showed her bringing her two sons, Ayden and Dylan, to prison for the first time so that they could see their father, Apollo Nida. After the episode aired, BravoTV.com posted an interview that it did with Phaedra, in which she gave an update on how her young sons are doing and how they’re dealing with Apollo’s continued imprisonment.

Phaedra revealed that she sent Ayden and Dylan to therapy.
“It was sort of abrupt. It was nothing you can ever plan, you know, effectively plan for because you don’t know what a child will require when something like that happens… I decided, you know, I would send them to therapy and so they’ve had therapy.”
Phaedra also talked about how Apollo’s imprisonment has affected her sons differently, whom she says are both doing fine.
“And, you know, Dylan’s just 2-years-old so he didn’t quite know when Apollo left. He was only 1-years-old, right after, you know, his first birthday so he didn’t have the actual, um, connection that Ayden had because obviously Ayden is 5 now, so he was very aware of what was going on but they’re doing fine. We’ve definitely, it’s been a process, but they’re fine.”
Apollo Nida began his prison sentence in September, 2014. He was sentenced to a 8-year sentence for fraud and identity theft. On the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Phaedra Parks decided it was time for Dylan and Ayden to visit Apollo since he was moved to a “more child-friendly” prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey. She did not tell them where they were going. Phaedra’s mom accompanied them on the trip to give Phaedra some support on the long journey.

Cameras were not allowed inside the prison, but Phaedra, once she and the boys were back in the car, did tell her mom how the visit went. Phaedra said it went well overall, but commented that the boys were less excited than she thought they would be upon seeing their dad. She said that after about an hour, the boys were ready to go. Ayden admitted that he asked if they could open the door and leave.
Asked how they liked seeing their dad, Ayden said that he didn’t like Apollo’s new hair. Apparently, Apollo got a mohawk hair style in prison.
In her confessional interview, Phaedra admitted that she wasn’t sure if she would do another visit.
“I am grateful that this visit went okay but I don’t know if I would do another visit. It was a lot. You know, we couldn’t leave when we wanted to leave. It was quite the undertaking.”
Phaedra said that Apollo was very shocked at how much Dylan has grown. She added that Dylan was talking and doing his karate.
When Phaedra’s mom asked what was her reaction upon seeing Apollo, Phaedra expressed relief that she did what she had to do. Phaedra also told her mom that she brought up the divorce papers to Apollo. Apollo told her that he wasn’t signing them.
“He did make a point to tell me that he won’t sign the paperwork that I’ve tried to get him to sign. Anything to prolong it.”
In her confessional interview, Phaedra explained that she was very cognizant of bringing up the divorce to Apollo since the children were there. When she did mention the papers, Apollo told her that he didn’t want to get a divorce. Phaedra made clear that she definitely wants a divorce.
“I’m ready to move on and close this chapter of my life. I see myself happy again. I see myself married again. And I see myself divorced.”
Yet she may have to wait a while for that. In an interview from prison with In Touch in November 2014, Apollo Nida praised Phaedra Parks and said that he wants to work things out.
“I’m not the best husband…I know I let a lot of people down. But I can say that Phaedra is the best wife and mom and that my children are in good hands with her. I’m hopeful that we can stick things out.”
