Following a thrilling and drama filled mid-season finale, Grey’s Anatomy is set to return to ABC with the second half of Season 12. While the series will focus on Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) in the first few episodes, the fate of April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson’s (Jesse Williams) relationship still hangs in the balance. Will the two be able to work out their differences and get back together?
According to Melty , the opening episode will primarily center on Meredith after her attack in the hospital. However, it won’t be long before fans finally get answers as to where April and Jackson are headed in their relationship.
“You don’t really find out what really happened with April and Jackson until Episode 11,” Drew told Entertainment Weekly . “You get little snippets in 9 and 10, but 11 is a big one.”
Drew remained mum on the details, but her comments do indicate that something major is ahead for the couple. More than likely, this means that two are set to reunite and move forward with each other or break things off for good.
In discussing the future of April and Jackson’s relationship, Drew appeared to lean towards a possible reconciliation between the two characters. In fact, the actress related how April and Jackson still love each other, no matter what they have suffered through at this point.
“As long as they’re alive, there is always hope. No matter what, they really, desperately love one another… They’re in a really rough spot, but there is always hope.”
While this seems to point towards a coming reunion, Movie News Guide is reporting that the situation is going to be more complicated than that. Apparently, April is more than willing to try and make things work out, while Jackson is a little more hesitant. Whether or not April is able to convince Jackson that their relationship is worth saving is yet to be seen.
Meanwhile, the opening episodes of the second half of Season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy will also focus on another mysterious relationship between Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson). So far, fans have been kept in the dark concerning the origins of Owen’s hatred of Riggs. However, according to Fashion & Style , the upcoming installments will finally reveal what their beef is really about.
Although there have been rumors that Riggs is actually Owen’s long lost sister who underwent a gender transformation, McKidd recently put down such reports in an interview with TV Line . The actor admitted that the topic would be interesting to take on, but went on to reveal that it Riggs is not his sister.
While fans will have to wait through a couple episodes for these revelations to surface, the next episode is set to focus solely on Meredith and her traumatic situation. The trailers that have been released so far include images of Meredith lying on the ground after being attacked in the hospital. Just how serious are Meredith’s injuries?
In an interview with E! Online , Caterina Scorsone (Amelia Shepherd) explained how the attack is “more gruesome and terrifying” than what fans watched on the trailer. “There were moments where we were like, ‘What?! Oh, God!’ It’s a lot,” she stated.
For his part, James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber) added that the event proves to be something that draws the characters together in an effort to save Meredith’s life. “It makes us realize how much of a family Seattle Grace really is,” he shared. “And how in times of trauma and times of turmoil, how you come together for the common good. In this case, it’s saving [Meredith’s] life basically.
Grey’s Anatomy is set to return with “The Sound of Silence” on February 11 on ABC.
