Did Joy-Anna Duggar wear shorts and pose with a gun during the Duggar family’s Christmas mission trip to visit Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband?
Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband, Derick Dillard, updated their fans on their long-term mission trip at the end of December, but the couple didn’t include one detail that their fans would have been very interested in: A few of Jill’s family members came to visit last month shortly before Christmas. Joy-Anna Duggar was one of Duggars who flew to El Salvador for the family’s annual mission trip with S.O.S. Ministries, which likely began on December 11.
In a blog post on the Dillard family website, Dillard Family blog post, Jill Duggar revealed that Joy-Anna Duggar also spent some time in El Salvador last August after Jill asked her to babysit Israel for two weeks while she and Derick were busy with Spanish classes. During her latest El Salvador trip, Joy-Anna took advantage of not having to babysit by having a little fun in the sand and sun, but a photo that shows the 18-year-old goofing off with armed guards on the beach is causing quite a stir.

No one seems to now where the photo of Joy-Anna Duggar came from, and it’s so bizarre that many commenters are speculating that it was digitally altered. However, one social media sleuth pointed on that Joy-Anna can be seen wearing the same shirt in the background of the photo below. That’s Johannah Duggar in the left-hand corner of the photo looking less-than-thrilled to be on her first mission trip.
Another photo taken during the trip shows Jackson Duggar posing with one of the armed guards that always accompany the S.O.S. Ministries group whenever they tour El Salvador.
Joy-Anna Duggar’s family might be so “pro-life” that they believe that abortion is just as horrific as the Holocaust, but the Duggars also seem to be big fans of devices that are designed to kill. Jessa Duggar can be seen doing her best to look intimidating while holding a black and pink rifle in the photo below.
Jessa Duggar’s husband, Ben Seewald, shared the picture on his Facebook page back when he and Jessa were still dating, and he seemed to get a kick out of seeing his girlfriend wielding the weapon – he wrote that the photo of Jessa with the gun was “AWESOME.” However, according to Fox News, some fans of the Duggar family didn’t agree with his assessment.
“They cannot do a front hug….or kiss…….but it is okay to hold up an assault weapon for giggles,” one commenter wrote.
Luckily for Joy-Anna Duggar, her choice in beach attire is drawing fans’ attention away from the gun in her photo. Some commenters on the Duggar Family News Facebook page are shocked that Joy-Anna was allowed to wear a pair of long board shorts while frolicking on the beach during her mission trip. Because of the boyish fashion choice, some commenters believe that the girl in the photo just can’t be Joy-Anna.
“With shorts instead of a skirt? I doubt it, it shows too much of her figure,” one skeptic wrote.
However, Jessa Duggar has also been photographed wearing board shorts. Last year, Joy-Anna’s older sister celebrated Independence Day by ditching the below-the-knee skirts that Duggar daughters usually wear to go swimming in a pair of shorts.
Duggar fans are always surprised whenever they see female members of the family wearing shorts because Michelle Duggar has made it abundantly clear that she believes women should wear skirts and dresses most of the time. In a TLC blog post, Michelle revealed that this is because she believes that wearing skirts and dresses helps her define who she is as a woman. The no-pants fashion rule is so important to the Duggar family matriarch that she even sought out special modest swimsuits for her daughters that include high collars, sleeves, and knee-length skirts. However, perhaps the Duggar girls are allowed to bend their mother’s skirts-only rule when they get older.
