Follow-up: Girl with tattooed face admits she lied
The Belgian girl who went sobbing to the media about the mean, nasty tattoo artist who tattooed 56 stars onto her face while she slept has retracted her story completely.
Kimberley Vlaminck, 18, originally accused tattoo artist Rouslan Tourmaniantz of covering the entire left side of her face with a pattern of inky stars. Kimberley tearfully told media outlets that she’d only wanted three small stars and the tattoo artist had ignored her request, stating:
“It is terrible for me. I cannot go out on to the street. I look like a freak.”
In the ensuing days, her story changed several times and people in the body-modification community were not convinced. In addition to the improbability that one will fall asleep during a facial tattoo, it is extremely unusual for such poor communication to precede a tattoo of this nature. For his part, Tourmaniantz has consistently maintained the same version of events, insisting that phone records would indicate the girl was not only wide awake, but texting friends throughout the session. Tourmaniantz said:
“She looked in the mirror several times. She asked for 56 stars and that’s what she got.”
Tourmaniantz has withdrawn his offer to pay for laser tattoo removal but has remained sanguine about the ordeal. It hasn’t been all bad, as he admits to getting “some publicity” (understatement) from the story. However, he also indicated he will be very strict about obtaining written permission from future clients.
