Lamar Odom’s First Post-Overdose Photo Doesn’t Feature Khloe Kardashian
Lamar Odom is looking pretty good for a man who almost died from a drug overdose, and the former NBA star’s family recently let his concerned fans know just how much progress he’s made by sharing a photo that was taken during the Christmas holidays.
Lamar Odom looks happy and healthy in the picture, but now that he’s doing better, it looks like Khloe Kardashian won’t be spending quite as much time by his side – Lamar’s estranged wife is nowhere to be seen in her ex-husband’s first post-overdose photo.
According to Us Weekly, Lamar Odom’s 13-year-old son, Lamar Odom Jr., said farewell to 2015 by posting a photo of his father on Instagram. The picture also features Lamar’s 17-year-old daughter, Destiny, and she looks like she’s having a lot of fun goofing off with her dad during the holidays. The kids came extremely close to losing their father, so they were probably thrilled that he was able to celebrate Christmas with them.

“Christmas with my pops,” Lamar Odom Jr. captioned the Instagram photo above. “Here’s to 2016. Blessed.”
There’s no word on whether Destiny and Lamar Jr.’s mother, Liza Morales, was with the kids when they visited Lamar Odom, but it’s possible that she didn’t want to fly to Los Angeles on Khloe Kardashian’s dime. According to E! News, Khloe actually paid for the kids to fly out and see their father for a few days. Khloe visited Lamar right after Christmas, but she’s not letting her ex’s health issues affect her love life – she left Lamar’s side because she wanted to watch her new NBA star boyfriend, Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden, face off against the Atlanta Hawks on December 29.
According to TMZ, Khloe Kardashian and James Harden later rang in the New Year together at a Houston nightclub on December 31. Khloe posted an Instagram video of herself and James sharing a very passionate NYE kiss, and she likely decided to share the intimate moment on Instagram because she wanted to disprove rumors that she and James Harden had called it quits. So while Lamar Odom is still legally Khloe Kardashian’s husband, she’s obviously moved on from her marriage to the troubled former Lakers player.

Even though Khloe Kardashian isn’t in love with Lamar anymore, she’s proving that she still cares about his well-being by visiting him regularly and making sure that his kids can fly out to see him. Lamar has been recovering at Cedars-Sinai Medical in Los Angeles since he was airlifted there on October 19, and his family was hoping that he would be able to go home for Christmas. However, Lamar’s recovery has been a steep uphill battle – he still can’t walk on his own, and during a November interview with Extra, Khloe Kardashian said that Lamar “still has a lot of physical and cognitive therapy to go through.”
As soon as Lamar Odom is able to support himself on his own, he’ll likely be transferred to a new treatment center near Khloe Kardashian’s Calabasas, California home.
Even though Lamar is making progress, a source told People that his life is never going to be the same. He suffered multiple strokes and oxygen deprivation after his overdose, and this caused cognitive impairment that may make it impossible for Lamar to ever live on his own again.
“He will need full time care,” the source revealed. “He can’t take care of himself.”
Other sources have said that Lamar Odom’s memory isn’t great, and sometimes he can’t even remember his own name. However, according to ETonline, Lamar Odom’s doctors have told Khloe they believe there’s a chance that he could fully regain his mental capabilities in a year and a half to two years.
Khloe talked about Lamar’s progress during a November interview with Ellen DeGeneres. She said that he was struggling to put sentences together, but he was able to “smile and laugh at appropriate times.”
Because Khloe is still legally Lamar Odom’s wife, she’s the one who is in charge of making medical decisions for Lamar.
