2015 Christmas Hours: What Stores And Restaurants Will Be Open This Year?
Christmas is here, and those making a last-minute trip can find out what stores are open and which are closed on December 25.
For the most part, finding a restaurant or store open on Christmas day will be difficult. Many are closing shop early on Christmas Eve and not opening again until December 26, but those who need to make an emergency run or are looking for a restaurant for their Christmas meal will have at least a few options.
To start, Christmas is a federal holiday so all government offices will be closed, including the post office. Banks will also be closed, although some people will be able to complete functions like deposits and fund transfers at branches that employ smart ATMs. Check your bank’s website for a map of where these may be located.
Here is a partial list of stories that will be open on Christmas 2015, via WRAL. Please note that these times can vary by location, so it’s best to call ahead to make sure they are open.
CVS: Many stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, with some pharmacy locations open until 6 p.m.
Rite Aid: Some stores will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Walgreens: Most stores open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Christmas Day
Aldi: Closed on Christmas Day
Kroger: Closed on Christmas Day
Wegmans: Closed on Christmas Day
Dollar General: Closed on Christmas Day
Publix: Closed on Christmas Day
Target: Closed on Christmas Day
Walmart: Closed on Christmas Day
Those who were able to get out on Christmas Eve had a few more hours to get all the essentials they need. A number of stores were open relatively late, including Walmart, which will be open until 8 p.m. There were also plenty of restaurants open to cater to the night before Christmas crowd.

So while it may be very difficult to get groceries on Christmas Day 2015, there are still a number of other locations open. People hoping to get out of the house to see a movie will be in luck, as it’s actually one of the biggest days of the year for movie houses. Major national chains like Regal and AMC will be open,
Restaurants are another popular destination for Christmas Day, especially among the more culinary challenged. While locations may vary, there are a few national chains you can count on. Here are some of them, via the International Business Times.
Applebee’s: Most locations are open on Christmas Day, though hours may vary.
Denny’s: Those with a hankering for a Grand Slam breakfast are in luck, as the chain is open 365 days a year.
IHOP: This chain will also be open on Christmas Day as well, and many locations are open 24 hours.
Hooters: While it may not be the most traditional destination, yes, Hooters will be open on Christmas Day.
There are likely some other local restaurants open on Christmas Day 2015, including Chinese food restaurants. If you’re looking for one of these local options, your best bet is to call ahead and check. Many major gas stations are open as well, so travelers needing to make a pit stop on the way to visit family can look out for these, as well as highway truck stops like Centers of America, Petro, Pilot, and Flying J.
