Road Runner Faux Tunnel Painted On Wall Causes Car Crash — Gets 3 Million Views In 9 Hours
There’s an interesting image going viral on Imgur and Reddit, simply titled “So this happened…” that’s getting boatloads of views. The photo shows a fake tunnel painted onto the side of a wall, and the Road Runner from the popular cartoon created by Looney Tunes. The Road Runner is peeking around the side of the tunnel, in the same manner he used to do in the famous cartoon.
The cartoon featured Acme products, and is still so popular these days that a list of rules for the Road Runner and his Wile E. Coyote nemesis have gone viral online as well, reports Time.
The viral photo was uploaded to Imgur by a user named rburn, approximately six hours ago, at approximately noon on Wednesday, December 16. In that short period of time, it gained nearly 2.3 million views and more than 200 comments about the Road Runner image. (Update: In nine hours, the fake tunnel painting has received more than 3 million views.)
The photo of the fake painted Road Runner tunnel was also uploaded to Reddit at the same time by a user named MissReb, who hasn’t appeared to comment on the viral nature of the post. Others, however, are commenting a-plenty, with more than 2,000 comments on the post on Reddit.
Some of those folks commenting on the series of photos question their authenticity, because the image comes with scant details about where the Road Runner fake tunnel painting car crash happened. The first photo shows the Road Runner and the tunnel intact, with a real road veering off to the right. The red car in the photo apparently mistook the fake Road Runner road painted on the wall for a real Road Runner road, and crashed into it — although the damage shown on the car proves the person likely wasn’t going too fast.
Certain viewers note that there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the fake tunnel painting — at least none that can be seen in the image of the fake road painting from the photo.
The resulting photos of the car crash into the Road Runner road display a banged-up fender and crushed headlights. It also shows the Road Runnel tunnel being painted over, completely white, so that no other driver would mistake the Road Runner tunnel for a real road.
“The Road Runner cannot harm the coyote except by going ‘Beep-beep!'”
“No outside force can harm the coyote – only his own ineptitude or the failure of the Acme products.”
“No dialogue ever, except ‘Beep-beep!'”
“The coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures.”
“All action must be confined to the natural environment of the two characters — the Southwest American desert.”
Meanwhile, the rules for Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner in the cartoons are going viral online as well, with folks sharing the cartoon of their childhood with fond memories. Others are commenting with funny quips about the photos, with the things they remember from the rules of the cartoon.
“He’s lucky, a train could’ve come out of there.”
“Finally! I knew all those years of watching out for falling pianos, fake walls, and literal sticks of dynamite would pay off!”
The viral list came out of the Looney Tunes animation director’s autobiography.
It was written by Chuck Jones, and titled Chuck Amuck: The Life and Times of an Animated Cartoonist. It appears that plenty more folks are still obsessed with the cartoon, as witnessed by the reaction to the viral photo.
Still obsessed with Chuck Jones' coyote/roadrunner rules. Awesome to so clearly, concisely define your characters. pic.twitter.com/MRd4zguD93

The Road Runner is such a popular cartoon character and icon that sports stars, like Riyad Mahrez in this Telegraph article, have been compared to the fast animal.
“As a cop, I am not sure I could, in good [conscience], issue this driver a summons.”
“Funny though it is, that’s a pretty reckless thing to paint on a wall near a road. People could have been genuinely hurt.”
“Note to self: coyotes drive Fiats”
