Shannon Doherty’s First Celeb Appearance Since Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Shannen Doherty is back from breast cancer! After revealing in August that she had breast cancer, Doherty made her first post-reveal celebrity appearance in Los Angeles on November 14. Shannen chose the 2015 Baby2Baby gala for the big event, which put her ” in the spotlight” for the first time since receiving the traumatic news. The Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed star has taken the months since August “to concentrate on her health,” according to E! Online.

The 44-year-old television star, who was there in the company of Jessica Alba, Julie Bowen, Jessica Biel, Kourtney Kardashian, Kerry Washington and others, looked great, dressed in “a black, sleeveless, loose-fitting” gown, and sparkly dangling earrings with matching bangle bracelets. Shannen posted a photo to her Instagram account, where she thanked Vera Wang for creating the “comfortable yet stylish dress.” Shannen also made sure to recognize the “great” women and “inspiring” speeches they made throughout the “wonderful evening.”

Earlier in the day, Doherty posted a photo of her Rona Pfeiffer jewellery she planned to wear to the Baby2Baby gala, saying that she loved her bracelets and ring.

Fans are happy to see Doherty out. Twitter user Doug Saul said that he “hearts” Shannen and is wearing his Shannen shirt!

Axel Diaz simply tweeted, “Queen Shannen,” along with a composite photo of Doherty at various stages of her career.

Doherty’s breast cancer scare led to a lawsuit when the actress claimed to find that her accountants “failed to make payments” to cover her medical insurance. In August, TMZ reported that Doherty revealed the news about her breast cancer diagnosis when she announced the lawsuit. Shannen told the story of visiting her doctor, once her medical insurance was reinstated, and discovering that the cancer had spread.

“She had invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node.”

The lawsuit claimed that the cancer had “likely” spread while Doherty was without medical insurance. Shannen was “set to undergo chemotherapy and have a mastectomy” last August. Tanner Mainstain, the accountant firm that was named in the lawsuit, denied wrongdoing, but said it was “saddened to learn” about Shannen’s breast cancer diagnosis. The firm issued a statement at the time.

“Tanner Mainstain is saddened to learn that Ms. Doherty is suffering from cancer and wishes her a full recovery. However, the claim that Tanner Mainstain caused her to be uninsured, prevented her from seeking medical care, or somehow contributed to her cancer is patently false. Tanner Mainstain will aggressively defend all of Ms. Doherty’s claims in court.”

Shortly after the announcement, Shannen posted a selfie with friends to make a point about the necessity of breast self-examination and breast cancer prevention. “Friends examine friends,” she wrote, along with the hashtag, “#breastcancerawareness.”

Since then, Shannen has made sure to stay in the public eye in a low-key way, posting to social media and being “seen out and about” with friends and on errands. Her Instagram posts have stayed upbeat throughout the ordeal, including a lovely anniversary photo of Doherty and husband Kurt Iswarienko. “Moments that change your life,” she wrote, referring to Kurt as her best friend and soul mate, and noting that though love might not be “always easy or pretty, it’s always worth it.”

Doherty has been spotted since then out for lunch in Malibu with Kurt, and also with Holly Marie Combs. Doherty and Combs are both Charmed alums and in January premiered a “road trip reality show” called Off the Map.

Fans of Off the Map were happy to see Shannen healthy enough to star in the show with Holly Marie. One fan said they would always follow Shannen forever.

Another Doherty fan tweeted that they were “soooo happy” about seeing Holly Marie and Shannen together in the show.
