El Chapo Guzman: Authorities Spot The Drug Lord But Can’t Fire At Him
El Chapo Guzman is the most powerful drug trafficker in the world, boasting an almost legendary persona. With an organization that is bigger and more technologically advanced than the once unrivaled Medellin cartel led by Pablo Escobar, he is almost untouchable as he has eyes, ears, and puppets both in and out of government. Having escaped from Altiplano prison earlier this year through a mile-long tunnel, El Chapo has had to keep a very low profile, with numerous sightings of him being recently reported.
One of the reports claimed that he was in October cornered in northwestern Mexico and supposedly got injured while trying to run from the authorities. However, looking at the fine print of the statement issued by Mexican authorities in regards to the incident, there was a deliberate keenness to indicate that El Chapo was not injured as a result of a confrontation, but injured his leg and face after he fell while trying to run from the marines. The following was the exact line as reported by CNN.“It is important to note that these injuries were not the result of a direct confrontation”
This serves to bring to light the fact that the Mexican government is not interested in killing El Chapo, nor allows anyone to directly attack him, and the sole objective of the current search for him is only to capture him. Looking at the manner in which he was captured last year, it just so happened that American authorities on his trail were able to locate El Chapo through a cell phone to the Mazatlan region. Apparently, they knew that the phone belonged to an aide who was with him at all times. And at 5.30 am in the morning, the authorities raided the condo in which he, his wife, daughters, and a bodyguard were staying, but only after using body-heat scanners and infrared to pinpoint El Chapo’s location and that of all the occupants in the vicinity and making sure that everyone was asleep before going in.
It can be assumed that it was imperative that El Chapo be captured and not involved in a shootout that would lead to injury or death. This is one of El Chapo’s main advantages in this hide and seek game as the authorities can only spot him and catch him, but not shoot at him. As such, there have been instances when authorities have locked eyes on El Chapo even after his recent escape, but were unable to arrest him as it would entail using a gun and risking his life.
Highlighting some of the instances in which this occurred – the authorities recently combed the Mexican Golden Triangle, which encompasses the Durango, Chihuahua, and Sinaloa states after reports that El Chapo was in the area, burning up cars and shooting indiscriminately at civilians. However, a few days later, El Chapo was spotted in Cosala, Sinaloa by authorities walking with a young girl.
However, they deemed it too dangerous to confront El Chapo because of the girl. Afterwards, he was seen again without her, and the authorities reportedly gave chase. However, his men are said to have fired at the marines halting their advance, and he slipped away. This is as reported by Business Insider.
On October 6, he was said to have been seen riding on a motorcycle and in another instance driving a Ferrari in Durango state by Mexican marines, in which case they never acted. Putting all these incidences together, it is safe to say that El Chapo can easily be captured. However, only in isolation and without his men, who could pose a danger to the authorities and to him, which is currently almost impossible to do because everyone around him is very much alert.[Image via Twitter]
