Tamar Braxton Withdraws From ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Over Health Issues
Tamar Braxton has withdrawn from the 21st season of Dancing with the Stars due to a serious health issue that was recently discovered.
Braxton, a three-time Grammy Award-nominated American R&B singer, actress, talk show host, and reality television personality, was rushed to the hospital on Monday, just hours before the live show. At the time, she was experiencing symptoms of what she thought was pneumonia. While she wasn’t on stage to compete with her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, Braxton later returned to dance in a duet with Nick Carter, Chmerkovskiy, and Sharna Burgess. At the end of her performance, however, she was led to a bench to be seated and did not speak to anyone.
On Wednesday morning, Tamar Braxton shared her diagnosis with her fans and informed them that she would be dropping out of the dancing competition. Braxton shared a photo of herself in the hospital bed, and explained in the caption that the doctors had discovered that she had several pulmonary embolisms, which are blood clots in the lungs.
Really proud of the strength of this girl right here @TamarBraxtonHer. I was so happy to have her out there #DWTS pic.twitter.com/sp3rO0pG1I

“With a Heavy heart I regret to inform you that my season of #dwts has to come to an end along with the rest of my tour dates with @musicbykem. After yesterday’s final #dwts performance I went back to the hospital (after the doctors didn’t want me to leave in the first place) only to find out that I don’t have pneumonia but something way more serious and that is having several P.E.’s (blood clots in both sides of my lungs),” Braxton wrote.
While Tamar Braxton said she would normally encourage individuals to “push through any obstacles” that come along, she said she has to take the time away to focus on her health, which is what is most important to her right now.
“As you all know I will be the first to always encourage anyone to push through any obstacle that comes along one’s way. But in this case, my health is my current obstacle… And in TRUE #tamartian form I must go about this the exact same way as I would anything else,” she said.

Braxton concluded her message by thanking all of her friends, family members, and fans for their support. She also thanked her partner Val Chmerkovskiy, who she referred to as not only the “best partner ever,” but also her friend and brother.
“I woke up to a mirror and saw myself this morning and that makes me the winner because that almost wasn’t the case. Take care of yourselves… I love you and thank you ALL for your support p.s. Big hugs and kisses to my boo @iamvalc for being beyond a friend, brother and the BEST partner EVER,” Braxton continued.

Now that Tamar Braxton has pulled out of the competition, there is talk about bringing back Alexa PenaVega, 27, to fill her spot. PenaVega was eliminated from the competition on Monday, and now that Braxton is out of the competition, there is an empty spot to fill.
“The producers are looking at all possibilities right now,” a Dancing with the Stars insider told People Magazine. “There is a possibility that Alexa could be reinstated.”
While PeneVega received three perfect 10 scores for her contemporary dance with her partner Mark Ballas, and three perfect 10’s for her Chicago-inspired dance routine with Bindi Irwin, she was still eliminated due to her scores from last week.
The Mirrorball Trophy will be awarded during the season finale on Nov. 24.
