Khloe Kardashian Opens Up About Being The ‘Fat Sister’

Khloé Kardashian has been in the spotlight all of her life, most recently for the scandal with her estranged husband, Lamar Odom. Her life has been documented for years on E!’s Keeping up with the Kardashians, and for the first time, the youngest of the Kardashian sisters is opening up about growing up as the “fat” one.

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Khloé talks about her weight struggles over the years, and how it has felt to have a different body type than that of her older sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kim Kardashian West.

“Growing up, I was always chubby,” Khloé told the magazine. “My girlfriends were always running around in two-pieces and I never felt comfortable to do that.”

Although she didn’t have her sister’s figure, Khloé said she still felt comfortable in her own skin, and credits that to her parents’ never-ending love and support.

“I knew I didn’t look like my sisters and I didn’t have those shapes, but I didn’t think that was wrong. I had parents who were incredibly loving and nurturing and always made me feel beautiful so I never really questioned that.”

Khloé Kardashian admits she never thought much about being different. It wasn’t until her life was thrust in the spotlight on Keeping up with the Kardashians that the media started pointing out her imperfections.

“Right before the show started, I thought I was in good shape, but I guess not good enough for Hollywood’s eyes,” she said. “I didn’t realize I was the ‘fat’ sister until I went on TV and the media started saying that about me.”

“Being compared to my sisters was something I was used to. But being compared in such a harsh way… I just thought, ‘Okay, that’s my role.’ So I started saying it before people. I was like, ‘Okay, I’m the fat, funny sister. Who cares?’ I almost let that take ownership of me,” Khloé explained. “[In reality] I wasn’t fat; I wasn’t obese. But I would let society make me believe that I was.”

Now, Kardashian isn’t focusing on the numbers that show up on the scale. Instead, the author — whose book, Strong Looks Better Naked, comes out on Tuesday — is focusing on living a healthy lifestyle.

“I don’t believe in numbers,” says Khloé. “I don’t believe in one size fits all. As long as I can lay my head down at night, that’s all that matters. It’s not about fitting someone else’s standards.”

Khloé has also been focusing on being there for her ex, Lamar Odom, who was recently found unconscious from a drug overdoes in a Nevada brothel. Kardashian has remained a constant support for Odom as he recovers in a Los Angeles hospital.

Despite being there for Lamar, and calling off their divorce, Kardashian says she has not reunited with the former athlete, and asserts she is still dating her boyfriend, James Harden, whom she says has been great throughout this whole ordeal.

“James has been very supportive and awesome,” she said. “He’s been great with me.”

Khloé does, however, admit that the future of their relationship remains unclear at the moment. With so much going on in her personal life, and Harden off to a rocky start to his season as Houston Rockets player, Khloé says she is just letting things “unfold.”

“If it’s ever too overwhelming [for him], then I understand that as well,” she said.
