Jessa Duggar Seewald’s Labor-Inducing Trick Involves A Pineapple, Today Is Her Due Date
Jessa Duggar Seewald is so desperate to meet baby Seewald that she recently decided to try a labor-inducing trick that involved adding a little tropical flavor to her bun in the oven. However, her baby wasn’t interested in arriving a few days early.
Jessa Duggar’s due date is today, but she tried to make her baby’s birthday a few days earlier by attempting to induce labor on October 29. Her slightly bizarre — but all-natural — trick to jump-start labor involved an entire pineapple. People reports that Jess’ attempt to get her baby out of her belly was not a success.
“Haha! So has anyone else tried the ‘eating an entire fresh pineapple’ thing for helping to bring on labor?” Jessa Duggar captioned the Instagram photo below. “Apparently it doesn’t work for everyone, ’cause I ate the whole thing yesterday… and still no signs of labor! (Sure was a tasty pineapple tho!) Guess #BabySeewald still wants to camp out in there a little longer! Patience, Mama, patience… #39weeks5days.”
According to the BabyCentre website, some moms-to-be believe that eating fresh pineapple can induce labor because the fruit contains bromelain, an enzyme that supposedly softens the cervix. However, because one pineapple contains such a small amount of bromelain, Jessa Duggar would need to eat seven or more of the sweet and tangy tropical fruits to have any potential effect on her cervix. Unfortunately, eating this many pineapples comes with unwanted side effects: diarrhea and indigestion.
At least Jessa Duggar didn’t discover the labor-inducing pineapple trick that’s mentioned in the community section of the BabyCenter website — some forum posters have discussed using a pineapple douche to induce labor. However, the pineapple juice douche is just a long-running joke in the forum.
Jessa’s older sister, Jill Duggar, also tried an all-natural method of inducing labor. According to Us Weekly, the Certified Professional Midwife drank castor oil after her water broke. However, it didn’t help, and some experts believe that ingesting the foul-tasting fluid can actually be harmful. Dr. Michelle Collins, the director of the nurse-midwifery program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, told Fox News that castor oil can make expectant mothers dehydrated because it causes diarrhea and vomiting. Some reports also suggest that castor oil increases the chance of a baby passing meconium during labor. Jill saw some meconium staining on her pad after drinking the castor oil, and this is what made her finally decide to head to the hospital after two full days of labor at home.
Perhaps Jessa Duggar is in such a hurry to give birth because she saw how miserable Jill was after enduring her grueling 70-hour labor and being pregnant almost two extra weeks beyond her due date. Or perhaps Jessa is simply tired of hauling baby Seewald around in her belly — she did complain about being as “big as a barn” in a recent Instagram post.
Jessa probably rolls her eyes at a lot of the tabloid stories about her pregnancy, but she wishes one of them was actually true. Yesterday, she shared an Instagram photo that shows her holding up the latest issue of Life & Style magazine. The cover claims that Jessa Duggar experienced some “delivery room drama” and had a “medical crisis” that resulted in lots of tears and prayers. However, it’s obvious that Jessa hasn’t been in a delivery room yet, and she looks pretty happy and healthy for someone who is supposedly dealing with a medical crisis.
“Cracking up over this one!” Jessa captioned the photo above. “Ben and I were surprised to find out that #BabySeewald was already born last week! I must say, it was certainly a relief for me to find out that all that labor and delivery work is already behind me. Oh, and A+ on the cover picture. I never imagined I’d get my pre-baby body back so soon! Haha! We both had a good laugh over this! #UnreliableSources Lol!”
As the Inquisitr previously reported, Jessa is hoping that she won’t have to head to the delivery room at all — she’s planning on giving birth at home. However, she’ll be ready to head to the hospital if she experiences any complications during labor.
Do you think Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald will finally get to meet their baby today, or will Jessa end up enduring a few extra days of pregnancy just like Jill Duggar did earlier this year?
