Will Smith’s Deadshot Gets His Own Awesome Cover For ‘Empire Magazine’

Award-winning actor Will Smith is on the front cover of Empire Magazine as the villain Deadshot, reports said.

Smith, 47, will take on the role in the upcoming David Ayer-directed film, Suicide Squad, which will premiere in August next year.

The character was brought to life on the front cover of Empire as the magazine continues its previews of the 2016 villain film.

When asked about the amount of work he put into bringing to life DC’s Deadshot, he said that his effort reached a “whole other level.”

“On Bad Boys, I trained in Miami with special-ops guys, but this is a whole other level,” said Smith, who has also played another protagonist with superpowers in Hancock.

Earlier this year while promoting his 2015 film Focus, Smith was asked by the media about taking the role of Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot, in the upcoming superhero film.

In the comics, Deadshot was once known as an assassin with almost superhuman aiming skills. Earlier, in his villain years, he was considered a heartless marksman who always finished off his targets just to earn money.

However, the report said that recently, he has been portrayed as a character that kills just so he can raise his daughter, thereby giving the character depth. Cinema Blend thinks that this could be the Deadshot that Smith will portray.

“I guess I like the concept of dubious morals. I’ve always liked to play in that area. With Suicide Squad, we just started on that,” he said.

In addition, he also said that he thinks he has not yet explored a character such as Deadshot, who is willing to kill people just for money.

Meanwhile, the actor’s Focus co-star, Margot Robbie, has also appeared on another Empire cover, but this time, she was flaunting the eerily beautiful Harley Quinn.

While Quinn has almost always been connected with the Joker, especially in comics and video games. This time around, it seems like she wants to be more independent and free to decide for herself.

When asked about the relationship between Deadshot and Harley Quinn in the film, Smith shared some details.

“Deadshot’s actually eyeballing [Harley] a little bit. There’s a pretty ragged romantic triangle there,” he said, hinting a potential love triangle between Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and the Joker.

The two new Empire covers come as another strategy to hype up the upcoming movie, and although it still has months to go to finish filming, everyone involved with the movie is making sure that people will recognize and get to know the characters before the actual premiere.

A couple of months ago, the film’s Joker, played by Jared Leto, was also featured on his own Empire cover, while model Cara Delevingne was also shown on a separate cover as the Enchantress.

In an interview, the Artifact actor shared what he went through in order to become the Joker in the upcoming film.

“I took a pretty deep dive,” he said in an interview describing his method in portraying the character.

Furthermore, he added that playing the Joker is a unique opportunity, and he doesn’t imagine “doing it another way.”

“It was fun, playing those psychological games,” the 30 Seconds to Mars vocalist said.

In the same report, the two Empire covers of Smith and Robbie may be the last for the film for now.

Suicide Squad will premiere in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016, with a cast that includes Smith, Robbie, Leto, Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Adam Beach (Slipknot), Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Jay Hernandez (Diablo), and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang).

Leading the team is Col. Rick Flag, Jr., played by Joel Kinnaman.
