Liam Hemsworth Reflects On Miley Cyrus Relationship: ‘It Was Real’

Liam Hemsworth recently opened up about his very high-profile engagement to Miley Cyrus. In the November edition of Men’s Fitness Magazine, Hemsworth reflected on their relationship and its ultimate demise.

“You fall in love with who you fall in love with; you can never choose. I guess some people just come with a little more baggage,” the Hunger Games actor told the magazine. “I mean, look — we were together five years, so I don’t think those feelings will ever change. And that’s good because that proves to me that it was real. It wasn’t just a fling.”

Hemsworth and Cyrus first met on the set of the Nicholas Sparks film The Last Song in 2010. Not long after, the couple was rumored to be dating. They later confirmed the rumors and eventually became engaged after Hemsworth proposed to the former Hannah Montana actress with a giant 3.5-carat Neil Lane engagement ring. The couple later split in 2013, right around the time Miley went from sweet Hannah Montana to a rebel.

Despite Cyrus’ recent news headlines, Hemsworth said she is not a “malicious person in any way.” He described her as simply as young, free spirit, and he had no ill words to say of her.

“It really was an important part of my life and always will be. She’s a free spirit. I think she’ll always surprise people with what she does, but she’s not a malicious person in any way. She’s a young girl who wants to do what she wants to do.”

According to E! News, Hemsworth went on to have a fling with Eiza González, but he hasn’t really dated much since calling off their engagement. He said, in fact, it is really hard for him to find time to be in a relationship with his constant traveling. Hemsworth explained that he has a close knit group of friends, and aside from that, he doesn’t go out much to meet anyone else.

“I’m constantly traveling, and I don’t go out to clubs or anything like that. I have a great small group of friends in my life, but I barely ever meet anyone new. It’s tough to have a relationship in this industry, though not to the point where it makes me depressed. I’m constantly working, and I love working,” he said.

“I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything at this point—I feel like I’m focusing on the right things and prioritizing things in the right way, and I’m a healthy, happy person,” Hemsworth added.

Miley Cyrus eventually moved on from her relationship with Hemsworth as well. She most famously started dating Patrick Schwarzenegger, however, she later broke it off after Schwarzenegger was photographed getting touchy feely with a fellow USC student on spring break, Us Weekly reports.

Hemsworth may not even have to worry about dating after all. According to People Magazine, he has already found his one true love. On Monday, Hemsworth shared an Instagram photo of him and his rescue dog, Tani. He kept the caption short and sweet by writing, “#TrueLove.” Hemsworth refers to Tani as his “special girl” and has posted four pictures of the duo together since he joined Instagram in August.

Aside from the Hunger Games films, Hemsworth also starred in By Way of Helena, The Dressmaker (alongside Kate Winslet), and Independence Day: Resurgence(alongside Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman).
