Joey + Rory Reveal That Joey Feek’s Cancer Treatments Aren’t Working, Stopping Treatment

Sad news came out today from the country music duo Joey + Rory. Joey Feek has been battling cancer for a while now, and things have looked up and then back down. Taste of Country shared today that they are now stopping treatments and have gone home to just live life. This is Joey’s second battle with cancer, and she recently had surgery and also went through chemotherapy, but Joey + Rory didn’t get the news they had hoped for from the doctors.

Rory went to their blog This Life I Live today to share that they have found out there is nothing more the medicine can do for Joey. Rory revealed that sometimes there is not enough chemotherapy or doctors or surgeries. Joey Feek was sent home, but Rory insists Joey went home to live not to die. Joey had plans to start her new round of chemotherapy on Thursday, but after meeting with the doctors, they went home instead. Rory revealed what the doctors had to tell Feek.

“Then the doctor explained that the scans revealed that two quarter-sized tumors have already grown back in the same area that they had been blasting daily with chemo and radiation. And that many more smaller tumors were visible all throughout the abdominal region. She said that the cancer was aggressively spreading in spite of all they’ve been doing.”

Basically, the statistics told Joey that she could do more chemo, but it would only buy her more time. They made the decision to go back home. Rory Feek shared that there was an estimate of how much time she has left, but they are not sharing that and threw the calendar in the trash. These two are just trying to live their lives but do admit to being scared and heartbroken over this news. Rory went on to explain how Joey + Rory are dealing right now after returning home again.

“Joey has been mostly sleeping these past few days since we’ve been home. Partly I think because of the medicine, but also because I think she’s trying to process what’s happening and even more so, what’s going to happen. I can’t process any of it. I can’t. All I can do right now is think of her and want to make sure she’s taken care of and knows how much she’s loved be me, and by so many others.”

At this time, Joey + Rory know that they have reached a point where medicine can’t do anymore for Joey Feek. They are asking for prayers, a miracle and a way to find peace with God’s decision. Even though they are dealing with this hard time Rory Feek is trying to keep his faith in God.

“I’m not going to tell you that I’m okay with this because ‘God has a bigger plan’. Or that ‘we’ll understand His bigger purpose somewhere down the line’. That logic doesn’t really work for me right now. I’m not angry at God. I’m not angry with anyone. I’m just disappointed. I hoped that Joey would get to be one of the lucky ones that somehow overcome stage 4 cancer and get to hear words like ‘remission’ or ‘cure’, instead of ‘I’m so sorry’.”

Fans of Joey + Rory are heartbroken to hear this news, but reaching out with over 700 comments on the blog already. Everyone is wishing them the best and offering out their prayers. Joey + Rory have had an amazing country music career over the last 7 years. He ended the blog post with “That is enough.” Hopefully, Rory Feek will continue to keep updating fans on Joey’s health status and everyone will keep praying for a miracle for Joey Feek.
