Justin Bieber Talks ‘Not Terrible’ Nude Photos, ‘Purpose,’ Dad’s Tweet & More In Interview

Justin Bieber ignited the Internet last week after full-frontal nude photos taken of him in Bora Bora by paparazzi, without his consent or knowledge, were leaked on Twitter.

In a new interview with Zach Sang & The Gang radio show, the superstar opened up about those naked pics, his new Purpose album, the backstory behind its title, religion, his well-documented past issues, and where he’s at now.

As one might expect of Justin Bieber, he offered some interesting sound bites.

This part of the interview began with the show’s hosts asking the singer for his take on the worst part of being famous.

Justin replied, “The worst part about what I do? Um, probably just people following me all the time. Like, always with the camera.”

After Zach told Justin he would post nude pics of himself everywhere if he was as well-endowed as the singer, the Biebs interjected — alluding to the appreciative Twitter comment that came after uncensored pics of him followed The New York Daily News’ publication of censored snaps — asking, “You’d be happy?”

Elaborating, the heartthrob said, “I mean, at the end of the day, the photos. I mean, they’re not terrible but honestly — at first — and, um, before the reaction was what it was, and still with the reaction, I still felt like ‘I wanted to keep that part [his schlong] for me.'”

Justin went on to add, “You know, I was never but I felt like it was a little bit of an invasion of privacy of my situation and stuff.”

“I just don’t want people to think I’m like ‘Yeah!'” [the Canadian gestured in jest here]. ‘I did it!’ [another gesture] ‘Look!’ [another gesture].”

Getting serious, the Biebs said, “No, I felt like, yeah, it was a lot you know. And, when I first heard about it, I was like my heart sank.”

Asked how he moved past being gutted initially over the pics, the “What Do You Mean?” singer replied, “What am I going to do now? It’s out there, so the more I stress about it, I’m like… it’s out, so what can I really do?”

Bieber’s remarks come after he recently told Access Hollywood he felt “super violated” by the same naked snaps. Inevitably, some media outlets have preferred to jump all over Bieber’s added light-hearted claim that his penis size in the pictures “was shrinkage for me” rather than blast the New York Daily News for its original publication of the photos, or the paparazzi who took the clearly privacy-invasive shots.

Justin was also asked about his father Jeremy’s Twitter comment two days after the nude photos of his son went viral.

In a since deleted comment that was roundly piled on, Bieber senior wrote, “@justinbieber what do you feed that thing. #proud daddy [smiling emoji].”

Of this, Justin told his hosts “I thought it was hilarious! ‘What do you feed that thing? he said’ — it’s such a dad thing to say.” Asked if he was embarrassed by his dad’s input on the matter, the Biebs repeated, “No. It’s such a dad thing to say.”

He also called out those who piled on his fathers’ comment, saying, “Are you kidding me? Like what dad wouldn’t be proud of that? It’s not like he’s saying it to an 11-year-old. I’m 21-years-old.”

This is why the Biebs called his album Purpose

During the sit-down, Justin dished on the meaning behind the title of his November 13-dropping album.

“So, basically, for a while, there I felt like I kinda lost my purpose, or felt like I lost my purpose, and I feel like I finally got my purpose back.”

He went on to say, “And I just want people to be encouraged by that and be inspired by that, and know that ‘Hey, maybe I lost my purpose or maybe I don’t know what my purpose is.'”

The Biebs explained, while raising his arm in a show of resolve. “But just that word is so important in life, just to have something to reach for and have that purpose.” He continued, “I have this platform to do so much and I wanna be able to inspire people.”

Asked what he thought his own purpose is, the hitmaker replied, “I think my purpose is to inspire people and use my platform to help people.”

Justin also talked about reaching burn-out during his extensive 15-month Believe tour (which kicked off in the fall of 2012 and finished in December 2013), and how it all took a toll on his love for his career and interactions with fans.

He recalled, “I grew up in the industry so a lot of the things I was doing just became just normal. And like, when I was performing it was just normal to perform for 20,000 people. It was just normal, you know — and it shouldn’t be normal.”

“Every time you should love it,” the singer went on, “and thank God for it and just, like, be thankful.”

“I kind of lost that,” Justin says, alluding to his fraught 2013-14, then adding, “I was meeting people, doing Make-A-Wishes and it was just going through the motions, rather than like, ‘these are my fans who have been waiting for hours to meet me, and I’m just giving them one of these?'” he said.

As can be seen from Bieber’s numerous affectionate hangouts with fans this year, his enthusiasm seems to be back.

Of his turnaround, Justin recalled “Something finally clicked and I was finally like, ‘You know what I wanna engage with them [fans]…I want them to feel like I’m connected with them.”

Getting candid about his renewed Christian faith, he revealed he lived with a pastor for a few weeks in New York. That pastor was Carl Lentz of the Hillsong Church in New York City. The Biebs said he believes cultivating a personal relationship with God is more important than paying lip-service to dogma.
