Just For Fun: Alternative Opening Credits To ‘The Walking Dead’

Season 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead is nearly here — which makes the wait all that much longer. To fill in time, why not check out these hilarious alternative opening credits for the hit zombie apocalypse series.

We all know the spooky and evocative music of The Walking Dead opening credits. Not only does it make any Walking Dead fan sit up and pay attention, it is instantly recognizable as the theme music for AMC’s zombie apocalypse series. But what if the creators of the show had ventured down a different avenue for The Walking Dead? What if some of the creators were stuck in the ’80s for example? What would the opening credits to The Walking Dead look like then? Could any other version of The Walking Dead opening credits make their mark on the audience and stick with fans like the original?

After scouring the dark recesses of the internet, the Inquisitr has managed to find some of the funnier versions of alternate opening credits. Let’s take a look at some of these ingenious alternative opening credits for The Walking Dead and see if any can do better than the original.

Andrew Lincoln stars as Rick Grimes in AMC's The Walking Dead

First up, we have Chris Hardwick and Wil Wheaton’s ‘80s version of The Walking Dead. Chris Hardwick is the host of Talking Dead, the show that airs after The Walking Dead and offers a break down on what occurred in each episode. In the intro to this video, he explains their reasoning behind why they wanted an ’80s-themed Walking Dead intro. Wil Wheaton then explains that they went to the effort of hunting down some of the people who made television show intros in the ’80s and got them to put together a Walking Dead version. Expect plenty of synthesizer music and cheesy grins in this one.

Next up, following in the ’80s theme is the Growing Pains version of The Walking Dead. This Walking Dead intro is set to the song, “As Long As We Got Each Other.” The video is cleverly spliced with Walking Dead footage that helps to show the “family” element of The Walking Dead. Expect old fashioned fonts and plenty of outdated image blending in this video.

The final ’80s themed Walking Dead intro is brought to us by the TV show, Cheers. This Cheers inspired video is also a recap on season 5, so if you haven’t yet watched all available episodes of season 5 of The Walking Dead, and want to avoid spoilers, please skip this video.

The video includes the Cheers theme song as well as the iconic stop start images that fans will remember from Cheers. The song has also had the words changed to explain what happened in season 5 of The Walking Dead. Mandatory created this video and have gone to considerable effort to blend the image stills into drawings.

The next alternative Walking Dead opening credits steps forward into the ’90s. Welcome to the Friends version of The Walking Dead. This video is your classic TV introduction to the characters of a show while using the well-remembered Friends font for the character names in The Walking Dead. This alternative opening credits has been created by The Woodcreek Faction. I dare you not to walk away from this video without the Friends theme song stuck in your head.
