Shania Twain Cancels Rest Of U.S. Tour Dates: Hints At New Album [Video]

When Shania Twain posted a Twitter message that started “Please read,” followed by a link to Facebook, fans knew it was bad news. Shania announced via Facebook that she had to cancel the last two dates on her farewell tour in the United States because of an upper respiratory infection, reports Rolling Stone magazine.

Per doctor’s orders, the 50-year-old Twain had to cancel concerts in Manchester, New Hampshire, and Albany, New York, and Shania cancelled the New Hampshire date mere hours before going on stage. But it gets worse: The dates on the farewell tour will not be rescheduled, according to Rolling Stone.

According to the singer’s doctors, Shania Twain needs to “rest for several days after she was diagnosed with a respiratory infection,” a post on the singer’s Facebook fan page read. The message also explained that the “concert dates are unable to be rescheduled due to Shania Twain’s current touring schedule.”

The country megastar’s Facebook post has hundreds of comments, with fans either sympathetic or angry the last leg of the United States Rock This Country tour was cancelled. With just 10 shows left in her farewell tour, many fans are not happy about the cancellation. According CMT, one Shania Twain fan summed up her opinions with her comment “That don’t impress me much.”

Shania confirmed in her message that that she “apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause her fans and greatly appreciates their understanding,” reports Billboard magazine, and urged her loyal fans to refund their tickets at the “point of purchase.”

According to Rolling Stone, Shania has already played more than 60 shows since kicking off the Rock This Country Tour last June. After years of struggle with her marriage and regaining her voice, Shania stopped touring for years and ultimately decided she wanted to pursue other music goals.

Shania explained to Rolling Stone that she decided to stop touring because “I feel like there are so many other things to do musically, and there is just not enough time to do everything.”

But it did not feel right to Twain to just stop travelling, so she decided to kick off her retirement with one last tour.

One major goal? Writing “more music. I’d like to spend a lot more time doing that. I’d like to make more records. I want to write for other people. I’d like to write more books. “ Shania has also hinted at a new album, which Twain confessed she has worked on during the tour.

Shania Twain hasn’t released a new album since Up! in 2002. Twain has also hinted she might do another residency in Las Vegas since her first one went so well.

According to Rolling Stone, Shania also revealed her decision to stop touring is about family, since her son is now a teenager. “I’ve just got a whole decade in front of me that is full already, before it even gets started,” Twain confessed.

For Shania Twain, her Rock This Country tour is nothing short of a miracle. Known internationally as a naturally gifted singer, Shania lost her singing voice due to lesions on her vocal chords, reports The Morning Call.

Working with a therapist, Shania eventually regained her singing voice, Twain admitted in an interview. She returned to singing with her Las Vegas show. It was there that Shania started a new album.

Shania Twain insists, however, that a retirement from touring is “certainly not my retirement from music. I will be doing music, I’m sure, till the day I die. I love music too much.”

Shania Twain’s final concert date will be in Kelowna, British Columbia on October 27.
