Twitter Moments Gives Users The ‘Best Of Twitter In A Moment’

Twitter Moments has been unleashed on the world, so what exactly is it?

Twitter can be difficult for some to really get the hang of. Many have complained that Twitter hashtags, retweets, and favorites can be difficult to understand, especially for those who aren’t all that tech-savvy. So those who control the Twitter universe decided it was time to make the application easier for those on the go and for those who are looking for something at any given moment.

The Twitter universe is just that — a universe all its own. With millions of users, there are countless things that can go viral on the application. News agencies, celebrities, and popular groups alike all use Twitter in some form or another, let alone the everyday user who uses it to keep up with friends, family, and, of course, their favorite celebrities from around the world.

While the concept of “following” any big name or topic seems easy enough, it often gets frustrating for those who are looking for something specific at any given moment. That’s where Twitter Moments, also known simply as Moments, comes in. According to a post by Madhu Muthukumar, Product Manager of Moments, on Twitter’s blog page, Moments is being called “the best of what’s happening on Twitter in an instant.”

Twitter Moments was launched on Tuesday, October 6 and was released to a select audience for the time being. According to Wired, Twitter Moments was only launched for iOS, Android, and desktops in the U.S. at the moment.

So how do users get to this new handy Twitter Moments? Whether you’re on your computer or using the Twitter app, it’s easy, simply look for the lightening bolt at the top of the screen, bottom for iOS users.

Twitter Moments can be accessed by clicking on the lightening bolt at the top of the app

Once you’ve clicked on the lightning bolt, a new screen will open up. Users will see at the top of their screen a variety of topics that they can choose from, including “Today,” which includes a list of stories from around the world. If it’s a trending topic, you should be able to find it here.

If general news isn’t your thing, then you can choose from one of the other four easy access topics, which include news, sports, entertainment, and “fun.”

Muthukumar went on to explain just how these moments are put together. According to his blog post, moments are currently assembled by a curation team, “and some are contributed by partners.” At the moment, Twitter is currently working with a small group of partners, including Buzzfeed, Entertainment Weekly, Fox News, Mashable, New York Times, and Vogue, though the company does hope to expand their list in the near future.

While Twitter Moments is currently only available to users in the U.S., that doesn’t mean the content is strictly available to them. Muthukumar stated that, as with any hashtag or tweet, these Moments can be shared anywhere.

“If you discover a link to a Moment in a Tweet or DM, or embedded elsewhere, those of you outside the US can enjoy the same experience we’re rolling out today.”
