Whoopi Goldberg Reportedly Says ‘I’s A Slave To ABC’ During Outburst
Actress Whoopi Goldberg reportedly had an outburst backstage at The View, which eventually led to referencing herself as a slave to the network.
According to Daily Mail, an inside source at the daytime talk show opened up about Whoopi’s behavior — including the multiple references to slavery allegedly made by the Oscar-winning actress.

She apparently even referenced an Oscar-winning film about slavery by fitting her name into the movie’s title.
“She was out of control. She paraded up and down the halls saying, ‘I’s a work for ABC who is my master. I’s a slave to ABC. It’s 12 Years a Whoopi at ABC.’… I’s just a n****r following orders around here, master!’ “
Radar Online reports that the source also claimed The View producers, who were “uncomfortable” with Whoopi’s outburst, were not successful at getting her to stop.
What, or who, was the cause of this reported outburst? According to the insider, the show’s newest consulting producer, Candi Carter, may have something to do with it. Carter was brought on-board to work on The View after its former executive producer, Bill Wolff, decided to leave.
Even though all of the show’s co-hosts reportedly think that Candi is controlling, the insider claims that Whoopi was the only one to speak up about it.
“Upset at the changes that Candi has implemented in the show, and not liking the way Candi speaks to the talent, Whoopi blew up a few days ago. She told Candi, ‘I don’t take orders from your a**. Stay in your lane like you did when you worked on The Oprah Winfrey Show.’ “
According to Candi’s bio on the New Chapter Entertainment website, she worked as the Senior Producer/Supervising Producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show for 15 years. She produced the award-winning episode, “An Oprah Show Two-Day Event: 200 Molested Men Come Forward.”

One of the changes that allegedly upset Whoopi Goldberg was related to a schedule change for a segment briefing. Instead of 9 a.m., the “Hot Topics” segment briefing was moved back 30 minutes to 8:30 a.m.
The insider claims that Whoopi complained about the schedule change, stating that she was “contractually obligated to be here at 9 a.m. and you won’t see me a minute earlier.”
Instead of keeping the briefing at its previously scheduled time, the producers reportedly filled Whoopi in on what was discussed at the 8:30 a.m. meeting when she does arrive.
According to the insider, there are even rumors circulating that Whoopi’s time with The View may not last longer than the end of the year — causing another potential shift with the hosting line-up.
“There’s now a buzz backstage that ABC is going to let Whoopi work for the months of her existing contract until December and then not have her return after the holiday break. They would then shift Joy to the regular moderator post and bring back Sherri Shepherd full-time to pick up the slack.”
Whoopi first joined The View in September 2007, replacing actress Rosie O’Donnell as the show’s moderator.
In her very first episode, the Sister Act actress did not hesitate to dive into controversy by defending former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick after pleading guilty to federal charges related to dog fighting.
According to the Associated Press, Goldberg compared dog fighting in the South to “cockfighting in Puerto Rico” — claiming that “there are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country.”
Therefore, from her debut episode on The View, Whoopi Goldberg made it clear that she would not steer away from controversial topics — making her a favored host over the years for many of the show’s fans.
