Have Brittanee Drexel’s Remains Been Found?
Is the search for Brittanee Drexel near its end? That’s what numerous people are speculating right now after the discovery of human remains in an area that is connected to the six-year-long search for her. WHEC News reports that the remains were located approximately 70 miles south of Myrtle Beach — in an area where the missing teen was last sighted when she disappeared while enjoying spring break.
Authorities have not revealed much information about the discovery of the remains, but they have confirmed that there are no identifying traits for them to make any determinations on whether or not the remains belong to a male or female, much less if they belong to any missing people. Also, authorities in South Carolina have not contacted Brittanee Drexel’s loved ones regarding this latest discovery.

Nonetheless, media reports have openly mentioned that the remains were discovered near the location where Brittanee Drexel’s cellphone last pinged. This has also been acknowledged on social media among those who have followed her case from the beginning.
Brittanee Marie Drexel vanished on April 25, 2009 while vacationing during spring break in Myrtle Beach. The 5’0″, 103-pound teenager became the focus of national attention when her disappearance hit media headlines, attracting the assistance of thousands of volunteer searchers and a myriad of investigative bodies. More than six years later, her unsolved disappearance remains to be a high profile cold case of national interest. This is thanks in part to interest on social media, and Nancy Grace’s CNN coverage.
When Drexel disappeared, the 17-year-old girl was not supposed to be in Myrtle Beach at the time. She had asked her mother permission to go on the trip, but was told “no.” However, her mother permitted her to go to a friend’s house for spring break — not realizing that Brittanee was really going to Myrtle Beach with or without her permission. Over the course of more than six years, very few updates have aided the investigation behind her unsolved disappearance. However, there have been numerous rumors over the years.
Even though authorities in Myrtle Beach have announced that they have a handful of persons of interest, no arrests have been made. Very little evidence has been publicized in the case, but surveillance footage exists of the missing teen on the last night that she was seen. The footage shows her going into the Blue Water Resort and then leaving a short time later. She has never been seen since. She would be 23-years-old right now.
Brittanee Drexel is not the only high profile disappearance out of the Myrtle Beach area. On December 19, 2013 a young woman named Heather Elvis disappeared from the Peachtree Boat Landing area in Socastee. Heather Elvis stood at 5’1″ and weighed around 118 lbs., at the time of her disappearance, with long auburn hair and brown eyes. Her disappearance attracted the attention of most of the nation and was immediately compared to the unsolved disappearance of Brittanee Drexel. Just like Drexel, Heather Elvis remains missing, and so little evidence appears to exist in her case that authorities in Horry County cannot hold onto their only suspects.
Married couple Sydney and Tammy Moorer are accused of killing Heather Elvis, but have been released and granted permission to travel out-of-state. They both maintain their innocence in the disappearance and presumed death of the missing Myrtle Beach woman. No body has been found, and authorities have never acknowledged what kind of evidence they have to indicate that she is dead.
If the search for Brittanee Drexel is over, at least one family will have some kind of closure in the search for their missing loved one. Otherwise, authorities in Myrtle Beach have their work cut out for them.
