Couple Robs Ohio Bank, Posts Photos With Money On Facebook — Gets Caught
The number one rule when it comes to bank robbery is likely not to do it at all. The number two rule would likely be that those who rob banks shouldn’t post evidence of their crimes on Facebook — or any other social media site. But that’s what happened when 28-year-old John Mogan and 24-year-old Ashley Duboe robbed a bank in Ohio and were arrested after posting photos of themselves with wads of cash on Facebook, reports the Smoking Gun.
The robbery occurred on August 24, and Mogan and Duboe can be seen in photos from Facebook in front of a women’s restroom after that point. One photo from Facebook posted on Yahoo News shows John with a big stack of money folded and stuffed partially in his mouth. Their arrest didn’t come until this week, when the Facebook photos that displayed the duo effectively bragging about all the cash in their possession led police to Mogan and Duboe. They were charged with robbing the bank located in Ashville, which represents an approximate 20-mile drive south of Columbus, Ohio.
In another one of the infamous photos from Facebook, Mogan can be seen holding a straightened stack of cash up to his ear, as if he’s speaking through the money like it is a cell phone. An empty closet with empty wire hangers can be seen in the background. Authorities claim that John entered the bank and demanded the cash from a bank teller via a note. Once the bank teller gave Mogan the money, surveillance photos display John — who wears a black hoodie — exiting the bank with the same stack of cash in his hands.
In the next set of mugshots displayed of the duo, there are no stacks of money displayed — only orange jumpsuits and plenty of tattoos on John. According to police, this isn’t the first time Mogan has been in trouble with the law. He recently got out of prison for a bank robbery conviction for a bank in Lancaster, only 20 miles away from Ashville.
John likely covered up his tattoos with makeup prior to the most recent bank robbery in order to not be identified. However, the Facebook photos that showed up four days after the bank robbery in Ashville pegged him as the guilty party anyway. Back in July 2010, when a Fairfield National Bank branch was robbed by John, a female was also arrested with him. Mogan was serving a three-year parole sentence when he got popped for the newest bank robbery. Sporting tattoos that claim “Loyalty’s Thin” and “Betrayal’s Thick,” John fielded Facebook comments from one person who complained that Mogan didn’t hook him up with cash.
“That’s called a McStack. I got six bands bra real s*** n****. I’m doing rrree=aaaaalll) good.”
With their arrests and Mogan and Duboe being charged with felonious robbery and theft, now in the Pickaway County jail, apparently their Facebook bragging did them in.
