‘Batman V Superman’ News: Matt Damon Reveals One Reason Why Ben Affleck Took Role
As many of you are already well aware, Ben Affleck will be playing the latest incarnation of Batman in Zack Snyder’s hugely anticipated sequel to Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And it turns out that he only signed on to star in the blockbuster after one important decision was made.
Ben Affleck only decided to lead the way in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after Oscar-winning scriptwriter Chris Terrio was brought on to write the film. That’s according to Ben Affleck’s old friend Matt Damon, who made this revelation at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Damon, who won an Oscar alongside Affleck for co-writing Good Will Hunting, is currently at the event to promote The Martian. But during his discussion with MTV News, via Batman News, he was asked about his thoughts on Affleck’s upcoming DC adventure. He not only admitted that he’s rather excited but provided further details on why Affleck decided to star.
“I talked to him about it. It was a big decision,” Damon admitted, when asked whether Affleck had spoken to him about starring. “He knew what the stakes were. Once he was able to get Chris Terrio to write the script, I think that made the decision for him.”
Damon continued, “Chris is a fantastic writer and Ben really liked Zack [Snyder], who’s directing, and it was like, ‘Well, I’ve got all the pieces that are necessary.'”
Before Chris Terrio was brought on to write Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the script was being overseen by David S. Goyer. Goyer has written Man of Steel, as well as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.
However, Ben Affleck has previously excelled during his other project with Chris Terrio. Affleck directed Argo, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, while Terrio was also rewarded for his efforts writing the film as he picked up the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar.
It’s believed that Ben Affleck is going to have quite a big hand in the development of DC’s upcoming movie universe. While he’s already completed work on both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, it’s also believed that he’s going to direct any solo Batman films that are ordered by the studio.
Until then, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due out on March 25, 2016, while Suicide Squad will follow on August 6, 2016.
