4K Dell XPS 12 Will Challenge Microsoft Surface Pro 4

When the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is announced in October, Dell will have its own version of the Surface Pro and it could actually be better. Engadget has the news.

“Yes, Dell appears to be taking a page from Lenovo’s book and competing with Microsoft’s 2-in-1 PC on its home turf. Not that this would be a direct clone, mind you. The XPS 12 reportedly touts a color-accurate 4K touchscreen with a super-thin, XPS 13-style bezel.”

Engadget goes on to note that Dell’s new device will have a Thunderbolt 3 connector and a sharper 8MP rear camera. It is believed that the Dell XPS 12 will come in cheaper versions with an Intel M processor, and more expensive versions with either an Intel i5 or i7 processor.

Some may laugh at the idea of Dell trying to compete with Microsoft’s flagship device, but counting Dell out could be a huge mistake. In 2015, Dell released the XPS 13, which is considered a revolutionary portable laptop. International Business Times called it an Apple MacBook Pro killer. BGR cut to the chase and said that the XPS 13 is better than the MacBook Air.

“I can say that the new Dell XPS 13 is good enough to pry a MacBook from my — albeit animate — hands. I’ve been using the redesigned 2015 XPS 13 for the last several months and it was surprisingly easy to relegate my MacBook to backup status.”

If Dell can beat out the MacBook Air, they can certainly beat out Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro 4, which is one of the products The Verge claims will be launched at an October 6 event and also claims that there won’t be a huge difference in the design of the Surface Pro 4 when compared to the Surface Pro 3.

“Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 won’t be a drastic change from the Pro 3 as the company has promised to keep the charging mechanism and overall form factor similar for businesses that have invested in accessories like the docking station.”

However, as the article notes, it doesn’t mean that the internals will be the same. There are some rumors that Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 will also have a 4K screen, like the Dell XPS 12. Two versions of the Surface Pro 4 are expected to be unveiled — one with a 12-inch screen, and another with a 14-inch screen. Both of these are expected to be powered by Intel’s upcoming Skylake processors. Which device sounds more appealing — the Surface Pro 4 or the Dell XPS 12? Let us know in the comments section.
