Watch ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ Premiere Live Online: George Clooney Named First Guest
A new era in late-night television begins Tuesday, and fans can watch live online for free as The Late Show With Stephen Colbert premieres in the 11:35 p.m. slot occupied for 22 years by the now-retired David Letterman, who aired his final broadcast on May 20 at age 68, after moving to CBS in 1993 after 11 years hosting the 12:30 p.m. Late Night show on NBC.
The 51-year-old Colbert was named Letterman’s successor in the coveted time slot after nine years as host of The Colbert Report, a Comedy Central parody news broadcast in which Colbert adopted the persona of a conservative political talk show host, satirizing the conventions of Fox News and similar cable outlets.
To find out how to watch the premiere of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on CBS, see the streaming info in the final paragraph of this article. The show will air nightly at 11:35 p.m. on CBS television affiliate stations, with the premiere set for September 8.
For his new Late Show assignment, Colbert has said that he plans to abandon his satirical “conservative” character and simply appear as himself. But that doesn’t mean his new show will lack a political bent.
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush is scheduled to appear as a guest on Colbert’s first program on Tuesday, while United States Vice President Joe Biden has been scheduled to appear on the third Late Show With Stephen Colbert broadcast on Thursday, September 10.
Biden has long been viewed as a prospective Democratic candidate for president in the 2016 race to succeed outgoing two-term Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama. When Biden was announced as a Colbert guest, speculation immediately began in the media that he would use the forum to announce whether or not he will, in fact, enter the race.
Actor George Clooney is also scheduled for the Colbert premiere, while another Hollywood icon, Scarlett Johansson, will share the bill with Elon Musk, founder and CEO of the Tesla electric car manufacturing company, on Wednesday, September 9.
While the show is generally scheduled for a one-hour time slot, Tuesday’s premiere is scheduled to run an extra nine minutes, meaning the show will continue until 12:44 a.m.
