The Wallabies, as the national team is called, won the World Cup in both 1991 and 1999. They once won 12 straight World Cup matches.
For the United States, where rugby is a fringe sport at best, the prospects of winning the Chicago showdown seem remote. Nonetheless, the Australia side presents a solid yardstick against which the USA team can measure its abilities heading into the sports biggest tournament less than two weeks later.

Nonetheless, the Wallabies — who have been practicing for the match at Notre Dame University in Indiana, where they have been sharing facilities with the Notre Dame football team, are expecting a spirited contest from the Americans.
“They are going to be pretty pumped for this game,” said fill-in Australia Captain James Slipper, in an interview at Notre Dame. “I am expecting a very, very physical and quick open to the game.”
