‘Under The Dome’ To End This Season, Not To Be Renewed
Many Stephen King fans probably thought the TV series of King’s book, Under the Dome went too far off the mark and was dragged out way beyond its usefulness.
While originally dubbed “the summer mini-series event,” its initial popularity caused CBS to drag it out over a couple more seasons and while some die-hard fans continued to follow Under the Dome, others just gave up in boredom.
Now CBS has decided to put both the residents of the fictional town of Chester’s Mill and Stephen King fans out of their misery by ending Under the Dome in the current season, two years after the series was originally planned to finish.

The series was based on a Stephen King bestseller about a town in Maine that was mysteriously trapped under a force field, or dome. It followed the lives of the residents trapped within.
Residents were left with virtually no radio communication with the outside world as well as no access to cell or Internet services and it was eventually revealed that the dome had been dropped over the town by mysterious alien forces.
Now CBS is telling fans that the September 10 episode will be the finale and the end of the Under the Dome series.
Reportedly Nina Tassler, chairman of CBS entertainment, teased that the dome was going to come down at the end of the current season, releasing the residents of Chester’s Mill from their confinement.
She also mentioned that “two groups of residents engage in one final conflict that some won’t survive” and that the dome’s “mysterious origins will be revealed.”

Now in the latest statement from Tassler, she says, “Two years ago, Under the Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world.”
“Dome‘s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful roll-outs of Extant and Zoo.”
“We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”
While the verdict is not yet in on the sci-fi series Extant, starring Halle Berry, or the semi-apocalyptic series Zoo based on the James Patterson bestseller about animals turning the tables, apparently the odds for their survival have now increased with the demise of Under the Dome.

Entertainment Weekly said that by looking at the ratings, Under the Dome was likely to outlive Extant, but it seems this is just not the case.

When Under the Dome was stretched into more seasons due to the popularity of the series, producers apparently had to scratch their heads to figure out a way to continue it and they did manage to keep it going for three years, which is no mean accomplishment.
However, the end is the end and apparently there are no plans to try and sell Under the Dome to another network or streaming company.
According to EOnline, the finale of Under the Dome can be seen on CBS on September 10. RIP. For die-hard fans of the series, you just have to hope you get closure.
