‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Standalone Program: Here’s Some Suggestions For Who The New Character Could Be

Recently, AMC announced there would be a companion show to the companion show of their zombie series, The Walking Dead. While the newest companion show will be a standalone episode and not a full new series like Fear The Walking Dead is, the culmination of the half-hour program will be the introduction of a new Fear The Walking Dead character. So let’s have a look at who that character might be.

Firstly, we have been introduced to the core characters, Travis (Cliff Curtis), his girlfriend, Madison (Kim Dickens), his ex-wife Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez and the children between them, Nick (Frank Dillane), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and Nick (Lorenzo James Henrie). Aside from that family unit, Travis also met the Salazars after they let him and his family shelter with them in their secure barber shop. In addition to them, the character of Tobias (Lincoln A. Castellanos) was introduced. Added into the mix were another couple of characters introduced that have already become zombie fodder. Artie (Scott Lawrence) was the school principle and Matt (Maestro Harrell) was Alicia’s boyfriend until he got bitten.

But, who could be the new character? Here are some ideas.

Matt’s parents. This actually seems quite likely considering when Alicia was with Matt while he was sick, there was mention of his parents being in Las Vegas, but returning soon. Considering the half-hour Walking Dead special will take place on a plane, it looks very likely that Matt’s parents might be on board. However, the general consensus is that there will be only one new character introduced after Entertainment Weekly reported that the “stand-alone story following a group of passengers facing a walker attack on an airline while in flight. One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead on Season 2.” If Matt’s parents are on that plane, it looks like only one of them will make it out alive. Not that they will have anything to return to except for a son who is determined to take a bite out of them.

Tobias’ mom. In Episode 2 (entitled “So Far, Yet So Close”) of Fear The Walking Dead, Madison bumps into Tobias while she is trying to find some drugs to help her addict son starve off his heroin addiction so they can flee to the desert. During their time on the school grounds, we learn that Tobias’ mother is absent, but his uncle is around. There is the implication that his mother left him and his uncle is raising him, but the audience has no idea of the circumstances surrounding the reason why Tobias’ mother would leave. Perhaps, when the apocalypse hits, she decides to return to her son? She may even have to catch a plane to get back to Tobias. It would make a great redemption story line if this is the case.

A relative of the Salazar’s. Daniel (Rubén Blades) and his wife, Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spíndola) are immigrants who moved to the U.S. to provide a better life for their daughter Ofelia (Mercedes Mason). Perhaps another family member is also coming to the U.S. to start over again?

Fear The Walking Dead returns to AMC on September 13, 2015 after a hiatus of one week during the Labor Day weekend.
