Mondel?z International, the company that makes Oreos and Chips Ahoy!, is going to move some of its production to Mexico. That, apparently, is enough for Donald Trump to boycott the company and never eat an Oreo again.
During his rally in Mobile, Alabama, Trump addressed a crowd of 30,000 speaking on many different issues. One of the issues was Mondel?z International’s recent decision to open factories in Salinas, Mexico.
“I love Oreos. I’ll never eat them again. Okay? I’ll never eat them again.”
Rather than paying $130 million for factory upgrades, the company decided to open a new factory south of the border. As Delish notes, the old factory was located in Chicago, Illinois, and was founded in the 1950s. The Chicago plant is the largest bakery in the world.
Mondel?z has opted for what they’re calling “lines of the future” at a new facility. The new facility will reportedly be much more efficient than their old factory. According to the Chicago Tribune , around 600 workers will be laid off due to the move.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump sees the move as a negative one. Trump has been a vocal opponent of American jobs being outsourced. One of the key points of Trump’s campaign is that he will work to bring jobs back to the U.S. from places like China and Mexico.
Trump was also critical of Boeing having factories in China. He made it clear that he’s angry at the United States’ leaders, not China. Mr. Trump also said that he doesn’t blame China and that he actually respects them.
“I’m not angry at them. I’m angry at our leaders for being so stupid. I’m not angry at China.”
Many U.S. workers who have lost their jobs to outsourcing see Trump as a hero. They believe that if he wins the presidential race, that jobs will start coming back to America. It’s unclear what exactly Trump will do to stop outsourcing, but it’s definitely at the top of his agenda. After all, his campaign motto is “Make America Great Again.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Mr. Trump has a large lead over his Republican rivals and is having a very successful campaign. The real estate tycoon has been able to stay at the top of the Republican pack even after making several controversial comments.
