Daryl Hall Divorce: 80s Rocker And Wife Of Six Years Call It Quits
Daryl Hall is getting a divorce: the taller, blonder half of legendary 70s and 80s pop duo Hall & Oates and his wife of six years are calling it a day on their marriage, the New York Post is reporting.
The divorce papers were filed in May but are only now coming to the attention of the media.
The 68-year-old Hall (real name: Daryl Hohl) married Amanda Aspinall, daughter of British gambling tycoon and zoo owner John Aspinall, in 2009. The two did not have any children, but they lived with Amanda’s two children from a previous relationship, daughter March and son Orson. In fact, according to an April 2012 Huffington Post report, March provided backup vocals on a few of stepdad Daryl’s songs, including “Save Me,” the video of which is posted below.
“Well, this is also part of my new world… it’s my stepdaughter, March, singing background on that song, and a couple of other ones. That was the first song I used her on. I’ve been training her since she was about five years old, sort of doing what my parents did for me. She has responded very well. She has an amazing musical ear. It’s funny that she’s a stepdaughter, she might as well be a blood daughter because she has that kind of music in her. I finally said, ‘Hey, do you want to sing on the album?’ She sang the background parts with me, and we have a great blend. That’s the most significant change. I’m finally using people like her, you know? It’s very interesting to hear the old Daryl and John [Oates] blend, and now you’re hearing the Daryl and March blend, which is slightly different, but it’s a refreshing sound.”
This will be the second divorce for Daryl Hall; he was married for three years — from 1969 to 1972, before his career with Hall & Oates took off — to Bryna Lublin. He then embarked on a 30-year relationship with Sara Allen, who was the inspiration for Hall & Oates hit “Sara Smile.” The two never married, and their relationship ended in 2001.
Although Hall & Oates’ fame peaked in the 1980s, Daryl Hall and John Oates have continued to tour together to this day, as well as work on their personal projects. Since 2007, Daryl has hosted the show Live From Daryl’s House, where musicians hang out with Daryl to eat, drink, talk, and perform music.
The terms of Daryl Hall and Amanda Aspinall’s divorce were not disclosed, but both parties had prenuptial agreements, according to TMZ.
