Justin Bieber’s New ‘Boyfriend’ Video Gets Compared To N’Sync’s ‘Girlfriend’ [Video]

In 2002 Justin Timberlake and N’Sync tried to shed their tween pop image with the music video for “Girlfriend.” Now, ten years later, Justin Bieber is hoping for the same results with his “Boyfriend” video.

Sites like MTV, the Hollywood Life, and the LA Times have all noticed similarities between the two videos but Bieber says that he never watched “Girlfriend” before making his new video. Bieber said:

“I haven’t seen it. (But I’ve) definitely been influenced by (Justin Timberlake). He was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music… I can’t say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him.”

Hollywood Life notes that both videos are set in a parking lot filled with cool cars and hot girls. The videos both feature the boys doing donuts and burnouts in the parking lot, and the girls even sport similar clothes.

Director X said:

“It was just cars and the simplicity that they liked. Cars, girls, just young people hanging out, having fun, that kind of thing. When I heard it, I thought that’s what it should be.”

Here’s the video for Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend.”

And for comparison, here’s N’Sync’s “Girlfriend.”
