‘Days Of Our Lives’ Renewed For Another Year With Good Reason
Days of Our Lives fans rejoice. The NBC soap just got renewed for another year despite some skeptics believing the long running show was on the verge of getting the ax.
According to Soap Shows, it was confirmed this week that Days of Our Lives was picked up for another season, which will be it’s 51st, and it is with good cause that the network has decided to keep the soap alive.
While many will agree that Days hasn’t been at its best over the past few years, there are some really big things coming, and viewers can sense it. In addition the show hiring brand new writers, whose story lines will begin to air in August, cast members will begin to be shuffled in and out.
Characters such as Serena, Xander, Aiden, Clyde, and Sonny are all leaving the show. Meanwhile, the big 50th anniversary celebration this November will see old fan favorites such as Sami Brady, Bo Brady, Shawn Brady, Belle Black, Philip Kiriakis, Steve “Patch” Johnson, Andre DiMera, and others back.
Days of Our Lives viewers will also get to see the return of some super couples like Bo and Hope, Shawn and Belle, John and Marlena, and Kayla and Steve as it tries to return to its former glory and recreate the magic that had fans glued to their television sets each weekday afternoon to see the drama unfold with their favorite heroes and villains in Salem, USA.
“We can’t wait to show the fans what is going to be happening for the 50th anniversary, but it doesn’t just stop after the 50th anniversary,” executive producer Ken Corday said. “This work ethic has continued, and the stories are just getting better and better as time goes on. We’re just starting to shoot 2016. It’s pretty amazing what we already have in the can, but I think fans are going to be extremely excited once all of this unfolds.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the month of August will kick off the new era of Days. The first of the character overhauls will begin with Steve “Patch” Johnson coming back to Salem, and he will bring with him his now teenage son, Joey, who has apparently run away from home. Joey, as well as other Salem kids, will be rapidly aged to teens, bringing with them a new teen scene on the show.
Enstarz reports that an increase of ratings could be the reason behind the renewal. The show has gone up in viewership especially in the coveted female ages 18-49 demographic, which is huge when it comes to soap opera ratings and longevity.
