‘The Voice’ Alum, Meghan Linsey, To Debut New ‘Believer’ EP

Fans of The Voice runner-up, Meghan Linsey, will be happy to hear she has new music coming very soon. The 29-year-old singer/songwriter is set to release her new EP, Believer, July 27 on GhostTunes, and it hits iTunes July 31.

Prior to competing on The Voice, Meghan Linsey was part of the country music duo Steel Magnolia with her then-boyfriend, Joshua Scott. The band was discovered when they won another TV singing competition, CMT’s Can You Duet?, in 2009. Scott faced a long-time battle with substance abuse, which eventually led to the demise of both his relationship with Linsey, and their band.

Meghan Linsey struggled both personally and professionally following the breakup. Her solo country career never really got off the ground. Instead of giving up on her dream, she turned to The Voice to help relaunch herself in a new direction. Linsey wanted to return to her New Orleans roots and showcase herself as a more bluesy/soulful artist.

Meghan ultimately ended up on Blake Shelton‘s team and left the competition in second place, behind winner Sawyer Fredericks. After the show ended, Linsey told Rolling Stone Country she felt she had to “move quickly” on her career, saying, she would only be “relevant” a short time after being in her fans’ living rooms every week, since “people forget.” Meghan said she began recording new material before she even began The Voice, and she planned to be back in the studio “pretty quickly” after the show’s finale.

Meghan Linsey told ET, recording Believer was another step in finding her “voice as a solo artist,” and further developing the soulful sound she feels she’s always had.

“Recording this time around was really just about finding m[y] voice as a solo artist, and for me, that meant getting back to my roots. I grew up in New Orleans and I’ve always had a soulful sound, I’m just now really able to showcase it.”

Believer is a result of all the difficulties and struggles Meghan Linsey has overcome. She hopes her new music will inspire others to keep pushing through the hard times, and to use those battles to make them stronger.

“I wanted to write about what I know and what I’ve been through. I haven’t always been confident. I’m still not always confident. I struggle with feeling balanced and good enough, all the time. I’ve been through some hard stuff and I’ve come out on the other side and I’m ok. I’m stronger than ever. I think people can relate to that. I want to be an inspiration to others.”

Meghan Linsey has said she and ex-fiancé Joshua Scott are still in contact and “very supportive of each other.” The Voice star is currently in a relationship with musician/producer Tyler Cain.
