Marisa Tomei Aunt May? Young, Sexy Actress For ‘Spider-Man’ With Tom Holland Riles Superhero Fans [Video]
Marisa Tomei, chosen as the new Aunt May for the reboot of Spider-Man, is too young and sexy, complain some fans of the superhero movie franchise. The actress will team up with Tom Holland in his role as the iconic super hero, reported MSN.
Neither Marvel nor Sony offered any insights on the reports that Marisa was offered the role. However, Tom was chosen only after a variety of actors participated in screen tests and meetings to work with director Jon Watts. A writer has not yet been selected.
Holland will also appear in a Captain America: Civil War cameo. And although he’s in solidly for the role, putting Marisa in to play the new Aunt May has caused a Twitter backlash, with some saying that she’s both too young and too attractive, reported the Guardian.
The comic books describe Aunt May as elderly, and in accordance, the character previously was portrayed by Sally Field at 66 and Rosemary Harris at 74.
Comparing those actresses to the 50-year-old Marisa is raising questions about both whether Tomei can be accurate in the role and whether it’s an example of Hollywood’s bias towards younger women.
“Aunt May is… Um, never thought I’d say this. But… Aunt May is kind of…. Someone say it for me dammit,” pleaded @SuperheroFeed.
“LOVE @marisatomei But seriously @Marvel?! Could we be more sexist & ageist?” questioned @DanaMAdams.
And others emphasized that the actress was just too attractive.
“I am not okay with being sexually aroused by Peter Parker’s Aunt May,” stated @miniver.
The controversy on whether the new Aunt May is too young comes just as Bo Derek has offered her views on how getting older in Hollywood limits opportunities for women, as the Inquisitr reported.
But Derek, known for playing the sex symbol in the film 10, admitted that as a producer as well as an actress, she looks for younger actors and actresses as well.
“I don’t play the parts I used to play, obviously,” revealed Bo. “I’ve been a producer. I wouldn’t cast me in a lot anymore. At the same time, I’m guilty too. I like to look at younger faces on the screen, and most of our stories are told by younger people because they’re the ones that would make a difference in a plot or storyline most of the time.”
As for Tom Holland, the 19-year-old future Peter Parker is busy sculpting himself a super-hero body, reported Comic Book.

Tom is working out faithfully at the gym to muscle up for his new role. You can look for his newly sleek physique in Captain America: Civil War, debuting May 6, 2016. Spider-Man won’t be saving lives until July 28, 2017.
