Ben Affleck: Batman Role Was ‘Strange’ For The Actor At First, But Can Fans Get Over It?
Ben Affleck’s Batman role was “strange” for the actor at first, he admits. It’s no secret that some fans of the new Batman movie series weren’t very happy with the new actor selected for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, especially when they were already used to Christian Bale as Batman. What about the fans who love the comic book version of Batman?
For the fans who love Batman straight from the comic books, Ben Affleck’s Batman role may be just what they need. One fan from Moviepilot describes Affleck’s portrayal of Batman in a positive list of excitement and awe.
“This Batman will be the one we’ve always wanted from the comics. This adaptation looks like he been through hell and back and will be a much darker version than the last one we saw from Christian Bale. It will make his [Christian Bale’s] look like Sesame Street. I mean look at him he looks menacing and intimidating and one not to be messed with.”
Ben Affleck’s Batman will certainly be different than Christian Bale’s Batman, as two very different men can hardly play the same role in the same way. However, Ben Affleck’s Batman role was strange for the actor at first, but not because he saw a dramatic difference between himself and Christian Bale’s Batman. Affleck thought he was just too old for the character.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Affleck couldn’t help but wonder if he was right for Batman.
“My first reaction was, ‘Are you sure?'” Affleck said. “At the time I was 40, 41, and had just finished Argo, and I felt like ‘This seems like a strange way to get to Batman.'”
Yet Bruce Wayne’s age plays a part in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it wasn’t long before the actor could come around to seeing himself play the main role, according to Inquisitr.
“He really keeps up the image of the playboy, actively,” he explained about the Bruce Wayne side of the superhero. “So you have more of a dichotomy which I thought was really fun, and a little sad, like the aging playboy.”
The news of Affleck’s split with his wife of 10 years, Jennifer Garner, has some fans bringing on the heat and directing it toward Affleck’s role as Batman.
All that kept me from truly disliking Ben Affleck was his love for Jennifer Garner and their cuteness together. Guess it’s hate time Batman.
