Jessa Duggar Defies Family’s Swimsuit Dress Code, Jill Duggar Shares Photo Of Man On Toilet
Jessa Duggar celebrated her freedom in a unique way on Independence Day — instead of waving the stars and stripes, she temporarily ditched her stretchy striped skirts for a pair of shorts. She and her older sister Jill also spent part of their holiday watching guys sit on toilets (say what?).
According to the Pickles and Hairspray Facebook page, Jessa Duggar celebrated the Fourth of July “by declaring her independence from skirts.” Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, spent part of their holiday swimming with friends, and it looks like Jessa had a tough time finding a “modern modest” swimsuit that would comfortably accommodate her growing baby bump. Instead of missing out on the fun in the sun, the 19 Kids and Counting star decided to improvise by rocking a pair of boyish board shorts with a T-shirt.

As many 19 Kids and Counting fans know, Jessa’s mother, Michelle Duggar, isn’t a big fan of shorts or pants. In a TLC blog post, Michelle expressed her belief that women should define their sex “by choosing to wear dresses and skirts.” She also thinks that women should try to avoid “defrauding” men by keeping their knees and shoulders covered up, so this definitely makes swimsuit shopping a huge challenge for the Duggar family.
According to the Duggar Family Blog, Michelle discovered a company called WholesomeWear that sells suitable swimsuits for modest women. WholesomeWear suits consist of dresses with high necks and sleeves worn over a spandex undergarment that goes down to the knees. You can check out the company’s swimwear selection below.
“The goal really is just to keep our focus on our countenance and to not be drawing attention to places that our eyes don’t need to be going,” Michelle Duggar revealed in the 19 Kids and Counting episode “Duggars Take a Dip.” It’s hard to believe that Michelle actually used to wear bikinis. You can see Jessa Duggar and her sisters modeling their modest swimwear in the video below.
As you can see, Jana Duggar has her own explanation for why the female members of the Duggar family like to cover up in the water.
“The reason why we wear modest swimwear is we always purpose to be modest and a lot of swimwear nowadays is exposing parts that shouldn’t be exposed.”
Jessa reveals that she and her sisters even make sure that their knees and collarbones are covered when there are no boys around.
“We want to try to stay covered, generally from the neck to the knees. Even if it’s just us girls, we still try to maintain a standard of modesty. We don’t really try to throw it out just because the guys aren’t around.”
Unfortunately, Jessa Duggar’s boyish Independence Day board shorts were only for swimming. Jill Duggar’s husband, Derick Dillard, shared an Instagram video taken during a local Fourth of July parade, and Jessa isn’t wearing the shorts in public. Instead, she’s rocking one of her favorite flimsy striped skirts with a skin-tight T-shirt.

Jill Duggar posted a photo taken during the same parade, and it features her favorite Fourth of July parade entries. As you can see, a local plumbing business created mobile toilets and bathtubs for the Independence Day event.

Are you surprised that Jessa Duggar went swimming in shorts, or does it make sense that she’s had to switch up her style during her pregnancy as her bump grows bigger?
