Sarah Sands, Mom Of Five, Finds Out A Suspected Pedophile Moved In Next Door: Now She’s Going To Jail
Sarah Sands, a mom of five, could be going to jail for a very long time. That’s where she is right now, and she got there by confessing to killing her next door neighbor, 77-year-old Michael Pleasted.
Pleasted had just moved in next door in the London government housing estate where she lived. The man had two counts of sexual assault charges leveled at him for the alleged abuse of two young boys.
He was awaiting his court appearance set for the end of the month, according to the Telegraph, when Sands got wind of his past.
One night, she sat down and reportedly drank two bottles of wine and a bottle of brandy in order to work up the nerve to do what she felt had to be done.
“I did it all by myself,” she told police. “I couldn’t let anyone else get hurt you see, somebody had to protect people, somebody had to do something.”
She also included some harsh criticism for the government forcing her hand.
“Who houses a f***ing pedophile on an estate, like seriously?”
After becoming intoxicated, Sarah Sands left her apartment and paid Pleasted a visit. Once inside his apartment, she confessed, she stabbed him multiple times.
Closed-circuit cameras then caught her leaving the apartment with the knife in her hand. A neighbor saw her and attempted to say hello, but she responded simply with, “Pretend you never saw me.”
Sands’ stepson convinced her to turn herself in. Now she and her attorney are seeking a lighter sentence than murder, but prosecutor Jonathan Rees isn’t having it.
“It is not a defense to a charge of murder to say something along the following lines: ‘The victim got what he deserved because he was a pedophile.’ Just a moment’s thought will confirm what all fair and reasonable people appreciate, namely that members of the public cannot be allowed to take the law into their own hands, however appallingly their fellow citizens might be thought to have behaved.”
On Facebook, the audience was somewhat mixed, with a majority tipping over towards supporting Pleasted’s killer.
“When the law is blind and uncaring we need to respond like this,” said one commenter, adding that society should “quit being such cowards and protect children.”
“Too many pedophiles living,” said another. “We have too many perverts out there bcus [sic] the law sucks. I cant say id [sic] do what this lady did but i can assure you if anybody ever touched my girls, they would be dead too [sic].”
Detractors were upset with Sands because the case was ongoing and noted that she had “no right to play judge, jury, and executioner of this poor man.”
What do you think, readers? Should Sarah Sands be charged for murder one, or should her fears about a suspected pedophile living next to her kids be taken into consideration? Sound off in the comments section.
